  • Greetings from the Refrigerator, All visitors are greeted by the refrigerator, right next to our front door! The kitchen is pre-fab bland 90s, except the appliances which look like from the 50s. It takes an hour to boil a pot of water on the stove. The dishwasher is so loud, our neighbors can hear it. The kitchen is on the same floor as our living/dining room, as it is all one room, but the kitchen cabinets are not a nice view from our couch. However, the view outside and floors are gorgeous, and we want the inside to complement it. We don't like having things on the counters, but because of lack of space, we have no choice. We would like something seamless and modern instead., Kitchens Design

We are in a den when we light our wood burning fireplace because there is little natural light coming into this room and the light from the fire bounces and reflects off the walls. We need help desperately to know where to begin, how to make the flooring in our rooms come together, where to start and stop the panneling etc is painting this much panneling through the rooms like trying to cover a bad zit with makeup? It;s still there just a different color? please help!!, Living Rooms Design

French doors have 2" wooden blinds while the windows have plantation shutters. This is the room where my husband and I sit, watch TV, read, etc. My furniture won't fit! I need ideas as to how to arrange current furniture or suggestions for different furnishings. Must be comfortable and grandchildren safe., Other Spaces Design

  • My Kitchen is in the BASEMENT, My circa 1700 home (bought 7/1/08) - once used in the underground railroad. Can't figure out how to make it work for me and my 69 year old Mom. Cashed in retirement to buy a home where I could be w/Mom & run a B&B business but this kitchen is not functional. The clutter on the table is a result of my efforts today. I would NEVER leave my kitchen this way when guests arrive! , Kitchens Design

  • Drab to Fab Kitchen Make-over, Our kitchen is small to begin with so the dark farm-style decor that came with the house just wouldn't do. By re-purposing what we could, adding a little paint, new counter tops, and a whole lot of energy, we ended up with something much more "us.", Kitchens Design

  • Super Quick Cottage Facelift into this Century!, 1940's kitchen in my cottage style home that got a quick (temporary) makeover by painting the original steel cabinets and retaining the vintage appeal by keeping the hardware, warming up the countertops with butcher block , subway tile back splash and new stainless appliances and a commercial refrigerator for a totally new look! The future plan is to remove a wall and open the kitchen up to the sunroom so this whole project was done for around $600 in order to keep expenses to a minimum as we have been redoing the entire house and the bathrooms were the top priority!

  • Faux Cabin Fiasco!!, **UPDATE**
Wow, thanks for the comments and ratings, all appreciated, be you from HGTV, twitter or facebook!

Since the adjoining spaces have been mentioned, I thought I'd upload some pictures of them too, in case it helps with more great ideas. Above our kitchen is just a crawlspace, and vaulting/ skylight is an option, though nothing we can afford now (or anytime soon).

Oh, and yes, you spotted one of our little guys in that cat tree, we love them a lot and did indeed make a catwalk for them to get from one tree to another.
**END UPDATE***
Breakfast nook with bench seating and a large window on one side, dated wood paneling and tile surround updated stainless appliances. Bay window overlooks fantastic front patio. Kitchen begs to be opened into living room behind the refrigerator/ stove. Sink window looks into garage add-on. Energy saving appliances used, including a on-demand hot water system., Kitchens Design
