This kitchen is in a 1970s era home in Knoxville Tennessee. We took down two walls to create this space and completely removed the old kitchen. I like contemporary. My wife leans toward country. We met in the middle. We both love it! This remodel took about six months of planning (we thought about it for years and about three months for the construction. Look to the right for more photos. We purchased our outdated 1964 home 10 years ago and have been remodeling it slowly. We recently finished the kitchen/laundry addition. One of the main drawbacks of our home was the fact that there was no laundry room. The washer and dryer were previously located in a small closet off of the main hallway.
After much thought, we decided to include the washer/dryer in the new kitchen area. We'd seen this many times in European homes and decided it would be a good fit for us as well. So far, I've really enjoyed it. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and it has been really handy! Also the high counter tops over the washer/dryer makes a great buffet area, easily accessible to the patio area (coming soon...
By far, the most difficult item for me to pick out was the counter tops. I really love the look of cement but was nervous to use it because it's not as durable. After months of looking at different materials we finally decided on quartz counter tops by Caesarstone in Raven. Hard to tell in the photos, but it's a very soft black/deep gray. We went with stained concrete for my table though and I absolutely LOVE it! In fact, it's my favorite part of the kitchen!
I've spent countless hours both watching HGTV and browsing here on the website getting ideas for the remodel. RATE MY SPACE was the source of much inspiration and I've been looking forward to finally adding my own photos to it :
Our goal was to create a warm, cozy kitchen area that all four of us could enjoy. Used warm colors to help counter the LONG, gray Oregon days. We're happy with the results!
Thanks for taking a look :

This inspiration for color addition actually came from a photo my husband took of a Taxi Cab traffic jam in NYC. Not only is yellow a happy color... finding great deals to add to a space is cause for additional happiness!!

You have to really see the "before" to truly appreciate our kitchen now. It was UGLY! Now we have stacked cabinetry that draws the eye to the peak of the cathedral ceilings with soft cream-colored raised-panel doors and a classic beaded inset frame featuring magnificent molding flutes columns pilasters keys and corbels. This is our dream kitchen and we researched for over a year to find the "right fit" of a contractor and designer to make our vision a reality. They nailed it!

The ceilings are 10' tall so we had the cabinets go all the way up. All of the upper cabinets have lights inside and the boxes were built of alder and stained to match the island. The island has a flush eating ledge to give me a larger prep area. We added a small phone desk with upper glass cabinets across from the nook made use of a very odd space. I did all of the design work and my husband built it he is such a great craftsman!!! Come visit my blog @ http://verandainteriors.blogspot.com/

This is our master bedroom that we just finished remodeling. If you look at the BEFORE photo this is a BIG transformation from my previous decorating style in this room. TOTALLY inspired by the cool hotel like bedrooms I've seen on RMS. Thanks for inspiring me--my husband and I LOVE this space.

STILL NEED- new sofa 2 accent chairs new rug coffee table & wood blinds or roman shades....... just need my wallet to keep up w/ my wish list. ;

This is the apartment that I lived in for three years during college. We were allowed to paint, so we wanted to personalize the space. All the furniture was provided.

Our kitchen started out with pale green walls and the cheapest stock oak cabinetry you can buy. We added moulding to the tops of the cabinets and painted them black. We also added a beadboard backsplash and dark chocolate laminate wood floors. There is still plenty of work to do & stainless steel appliances to buy but here's where we are as of today! We moved from a home that had a huge kitchen with a large center island. I was forever running circles around it to get to the fridge the stove and the sink. With a little less elbow room and a lot less to clean it perfectly fits our needs!

Many years of white walls and we took the plunge and painted our kitchen red. Everything in the room popped! We are in the process of changing from our 12 yr old "gold" hardware to brushed nickel. I know I have to remove most of the "stuff" over the top cabinets ..I am just dreading the dust avalanche.

Welcome to my kitchen renovation…so glad you stopped by! The before picture says it all…dreary dark and stuck in the 80’s with the beige-colored formica counter tops and backsplash. You can’t see it in the photo but a previous homeowner had managed to badly melt the countertop in two spots. (LOL Definitely time for a change! :- Hope you enjoy the new look and I'd love for you to come visit and leave me a note at: http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/

We reworked the furniture arrangement based on lots of advice... I think it allows more focus on the fireplace center now. Thanks for the suggestions! The chest was an old find that I refinished and my husband applied trimwork on. I then hand-painted the design on both sides and used "rub-n-buff" in gold to highlight. I also "fauxed" the mantel. It was painted white when we moved in and I used a product called Stain and Seal to look like wood and then highlighted with the rub-n-buff.

After talking with a number of friends, I decided to makeover a room with a $500 budget!
The feedback that I have received is truly appreciated! I've done my best to answer questions received and be as detailed as possible in descriptions to hopefully inspire other to complete a "Master Makeover with Minimal Money".
