  • Northwest Contemporary Kitchen Remodel, We purchased our outdated 1964 home 10 years ago and have been remodeling it slowly. We recently finished the kitchen/laundry addition. One of the main drawbacks of our home was the fact that there was no laundry room. The washer and dryer were previously located in a small closet off of the main hallway.

After much thought, we decided to include the washer/dryer in the new kitchen area. We'd seen this many times in European homes and decided it would be a good fit for us as well. So far, I've really enjoyed it. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and it has been really handy! Also the high counter tops over the washer/dryer makes a great buffet area, easily accessible to the patio area (coming soon...)

By far, the most difficult item for me to pick out was the counter tops. I really love the look of cement but was nervous to use it because it's not as durable. After months of looking at different materials we finally decided on quartz counter tops by Caesarstone in Raven. Hard to tell in the photos, but it's a very soft black/deep gray. We went with stained concrete for my table though and I absolutely LOVE it! In fact, it's my favorite part of the kitchen!

I've spent countless hours both watching HGTV and browsing here on the website getting ideas for the remodel. RATE MY SPACE was the source of much inspiration and I've been looking forward to finally adding my own photos to it :)

Our goal was to create a warm, cozy kitchen area that all four of us could enjoy. Used warm colors to help counter the LONG, gray Oregon days. We're happy with the results!

Thanks for taking a look :)

  • English Country Cottage Christmas Decorations in Virginia, Our newly built English style cottage in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains reflects our love of the architecture of my husband's homeland. I designed the home around a 16th century Welsh timberframe we imported from the UK, and fully outfitted the house with British architectural antiques, including 17th century oak panelling and a Victorian staircase. Here, we've decorated for the holidays in traditional English style. Hope you enjoy!, Holidays Design

  • Treasure Island Theme Bedroom, My wife came up with a Treasue Island theme bedroom retreat for our Grandchildren for when they come to stay. It all started with the book, boat bed and the sign over the bed and grew from there. It took some time to find all the materials and make them work with the vision. • Beach Cabin Powder Room, This tiny bath was part original, part 80's, and totally void of anything that would suggest "cabin". My husband made t&g boards to match the one existing wall and replaced the outdated countertop with a wood one to match the old wood floors that we discovered under many layers. The copper sink was an unbelieveable find at a closeout for $30. I added trim to the existing cabinet and painted everything in an earthy green. I chose to paint the cabinet the same color as the walls to make it recede rather than stand out in such a small space.Beadboard was added to the ceiling and painted a crisp white. I installed rustic exterior lighting to go with a mirror I already owned and to help keep that "cabin" feel. The opposite wall from the sink is all linen closet which I painted the same bright white preventing the room from being too dark, or too green. The entire makeover ran about $140 to blend this tired little bath in with the rest of our cabin., Bathrooms Design

  • My Pergola and gardens, This is the pergola that I made for my mother, Lela Marie, who loved flowers and gardening. I am 63 and I built this pergola by myself and it was not a kit. I built and designed it as I went along. I built it from presure treated lumber and painted it to match my home. My husband told me not to build it but at 63 I don't think anyone should tell you what you can and cannot do so I went outside and started digging holes for my post and my husband came outside and ask me what I was doing and I told him that I was going to build the pergola that he told me not to build. He made no comment but he likes it now. I wired the lanterns for electricity and put lights around the bottom edge under the wood of the pergola and it looks great at night. I built the picket fence three years ago when I started my garden. My sisters all came up to see me in Elgin, IL. from Indiana the first week of August. The mirrors in the pergola reflect the flowers, blue water fountain and window boxes on the othe side of the pergola. The watering can fountain looks like it is really watering the flowers. There is a sign at the other end of the pergola that reads: "Just Another Day In Paradise". That is just how I feel. My flag picture is to show that I am proud to be an American and to show respect for all those that have fought for our freedom. I hope you like my work and may everyone have a great year., Gardens Design

  • Outdoor Oasis, The guesthouse and outdoor living areas were designed, and constructed, years after the main house was built. The engagement of their daughter prompted this addition as they wanted to host her wedding reception at their country home. An absolute must with this project was to seamlessly coordinate the new addition with the main structure. The new structure was to include an outdoor kitchen, ample seating for a large number of guests, a 2BR/3BA guesthouse, an indoor kitchen and large great room. To complete this country oasis, a pool, hot-tub, and water feature, were part of the overall landscaping plan that equaled the beautiful natural surroundings of the home.

Not only does the new structure match the existing home, it accentuates and enhances the overall quality of living. The outdoor kitchen, fireplace and adequate seating areas ensure the space functions as intended. The well planned outdoor kitchen complete with gas rotisserie grill, smoker, secondary gas burner, ample storage, and refrigerator is perfect for preparing family meals or hosting parties.

The pergola and outdoor dining table give one the sense of being in Italy. The sound of falling water down the rock wall water-feature, the glow of candlelight, and perfectly placed outdoor focal lighting all add to the ambiance.

The wood-burning fireplace sets a tone of relaxation and is frequently a gathering place for family and friends to enjoy. Attentions to detail, including mosquito misters, ample electrical outlets, plentiful storage, and easy-wear, easy-care materials make this dream backyard as comfortable as it is carefree.
