  • Texas Style Outdoor Room / Kitchen, We like to spend time outdoors but in Houston Texas you need a covered space and pool to keep cool most of the year. We designed our outdoor living space to be an extension of the indoors. It includes a sitting area dining area and outdoor kitchen. We would love to hear what you think!(The palm design over the fireplace is not artwork. It is a flat screen tv cover.), Patios & Decks Design

  • Northwest Contemporary Kitchen Remodel, We purchased our outdated 1964 home 10 years ago and have been remodeling it slowly. We recently finished the kitchen/laundry addition. One of the main drawbacks of our home was the fact that there was no laundry room. The washer and dryer were previously located in a small closet off of the main hallway.

After much thought, we decided to include the washer/dryer in the new kitchen area. We'd seen this many times in European homes and decided it would be a good fit for us as well. So far, I've really enjoyed it. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and it has been really handy! Also the high counter tops over the washer/dryer makes a great buffet area, easily accessible to the patio area (coming soon...)

By far, the most difficult item for me to pick out was the counter tops. I really love the look of cement but was nervous to use it because it's not as durable. After months of looking at different materials we finally decided on quartz counter tops by Caesarstone in Raven. Hard to tell in the photos, but it's a very soft black/deep gray. We went with stained concrete for my table though and I absolutely LOVE it! In fact, it's my favorite part of the kitchen!

I've spent countless hours both watching HGTV and browsing here on the website getting ideas for the remodel. RATE MY SPACE was the source of much inspiration and I've been looking forward to finally adding my own photos to it :)

Our goal was to create a warm, cozy kitchen area that all four of us could enjoy. Used warm colors to help counter the LONG, gray Oregon days. We're happy with the results!

Thanks for taking a look :)

  • Sun Porch, In 2006 my husband and I started on what would be a 3 year journey renovating our 1910 Victorian home in Weehawken, NJ. Although the house was “rough” to say the least, we saw through the mess and fell in love with the bones of the house. Throughout our renovation we restored what period detail we could and added modern, eclectic elements in other places.

This was one of our biggest projects in terms on construction, thinking I was just going to change the flooring material turned into removing the entire floor and replacing the footings and sub floor. We had a 6 foot pit down to the dirt. The ceiling also had to come out which led to the gorgeous wainscotting (I stained it all myself) and crown molding. We exposed the original brick which had a minimum of 10 coast of paint on it, it required 2 chemical treatments, power washing and finally grinding – I love how it turned out.

I joke that the old windows are held together with bondo, caulking and paint! They were in terrible condition but I couldn’t part with the original wood French paned windows – they belong in this space. The transom glass was a sort of horrible faux stained glass so we replaced it with clear glass and the instant transformation of the windows was shocking.

This is the first room you walk into through the front door so I wanted something clean and simple that would show off the architecture of the room vs. furniture and over accessorizing. My favorite feature if the stencil of “The Tree of Life” as you walk into the front door (I searched high and low for a great stencil that wasn’t cheesey). It adds a little whimsy and sets the tone for the rest of the house. We love to open the windows and hang out in here on a warm rainy day. That couch has turned into our dogs favorite spot in the house. He gets sunshine and a front row seat to what’s going on in the neighborhood. I rescued those chairs from the street, someone was throwing them away! I plan to strip and stain them dark but in the meantime I just added new cushions.

  • A 200 year old yard, I've been restoring my antique house for years & now it's the yard. I've reused stones mostly for a sunken garden. The yard consisted of poison ivy & sumaic atlhough there were lilaic iris & apple trees. An old forgotten dirt road ran right through the yard. Most of the plants now are from relatives friends & even one dug from my fourth-great grandfather's yard . I scour flea markets yard sales & even roadside trash. I rescue dogs & I hope you enjoy this tour with us. , Yards Design
