Dream Come True

This kitchen remodel was a dream come true. We removed the overhang above the old cabinets, replaced the window with a garden window lowered to allow the quartz countertop to extend out into it. Cabinets and countertop are new, appliances and floor were not changed. The wall behind the island stools was originally blank. We went 6 inches into the wall to allow the cabinet to be deeper without taking from the room space. The island was done in a different finish with a microwave/warming drawer installed. It has a toe kick on all 4 sides and decorative feet to make it look like a piece of furniture. All new lighting was installed with lights also installed under the cabinets. The wall cabinets are two different heights. Some of the wall cabinets were to go to the ceiling, but the ceiling was not level and was leaving gaps, so they were lowered to below the crown molding. The shelf under the wine rack has an outlet for charging our phones. I have decorated it with a hints of a beach theme.

The totally remodeled kitchen looks out of a large garden window onto the Chehalem Glenn Golf Course in the beautiful Chehalem Valley of Oregon’s Pinot Noir wine region. It features a lovely nook with custom buffet, cherry cabinets with soft close and hand cast bronze hardware, cherry floors, solid granite slabs, travertine backsplash, Wolf & Sub Zero appliances, Asko dishwasher, commercial trash compactor and garbage disposer, filtered hot and cold water. The Wolf 60” dual fuel range includes a double griddle and pizza oven conversion modules, the Sub Zero 48” refrigerator includes soft close drawers, air and water filtration systems and dual compressors. The sink is black granite with Grohe fixtures and is extra deep. As a passionate do-it-yourselfer, I was able to do much of the design and remodel work myself. Of course I had help with my cabinets by one of the Pacific Northwest’s best designer and craftsman – Gary Smith of DeWils Interiors & Custom Cabinets (360-892-6300. And I could not have done any of this without the support of my fantastic wife who was so patient with me. By negotiating seriously hard with vendors and being smart with my purchase timing, I was able to save significantly off already good pricing and we came in $27K under budget which is rare for construction. Location is Newberg, Oregon.

I was going for a spa feeling here, and I have seen so many great examples on this site that I am humbled. I fell in love with the medicine cabinets and kind of designed the room around them, I guess. I love the look of glass and was really pleased with the way that the glass wall, closet doors, shower, and shower tiles all 'went together.' I know that this is too matchy-matchy, but I don't like to stray outside of my comfort zone!

When we moved in to our new house, we found a very white kitchen. While functional, it didnt have any personality. We have now added color, new stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops to add some warmth to the room. Enjoy!
