  • Vintage Modern Turquoise Kitchen, We gut renovated the kitchen in our house, starting the week we moved in! We created a beautiful brand new kitchen for under $15,000 by designing and sourcing all materials and fixtures by myself. Best score was a $6 light fixture from the thrift shop; biggest splurge was a custom $2000 Paperstone countertop. We wanted to keep a vintage modern look to go with our house and I think it worked. • White and Turquoise Kitchen, We saved for two years to remodel our existing kitchen. We changed the layout by moving the range and fridge and knocking out a couple of walls. This enabled us to take advantage of more wall space and more than double the cabinetry, add a large eat-at island, wine bar, bookcase and 36 inch range., Kitchens Design

  • Budget-Friendly DIY Kitchen Makeover, The 1990s oak kitchen in my new-to-me lakehouse was dated, worn-out, and provided little storage space. With my Handy Hubby, I removed the upper cabinetry and tile, painted the remaining lower cabinets turquoise, added crisp white paneling, open shelving and DIY pantry, built a DIY solid maple counter, plus added a shiny new sink, faucet, and hardware. It's a temporary solution to get us through the next five years while we save for a major remodel, but we like it so much it might stick around longer!

  • Need HELP Dining Room Mixing vintage and modern, The furniture in this dining room is a mixture of antique and modern pieces. The table is a hand me down. I would like to keep the pewter pieces and crystal lamps on the hutch, but need to give the whole room a little bit more contemporary look. I do have a new chandelier to hang; it's oil rubbed bronze. Main problem is a table display (something low and a little tropical) and the upper shelves on the hutch. What to put there???, Dining Rooms Design

  • My Rustic Bright Kitchen, I am a DIY attic and designed my kitchen to have a rustic old world appeal by installing a copper farmhouse sink and using veneer stone. Got rid the wall and put a peninsula in place for extra dining area. I found and ordered light vintage Rta cabinets and white subway tiles online subway to brighten up the space. Before I had no storage or space to prep and had only two cabinets that were located on one side of the wall where the stove is now It took me a good two weeks to built my own custom vent hood. After a good three months of hard work, adding cabinets, granite countertops, getting the new window installed to replace the tiny one, my kitchen is now functional and a fun place to cook., Kitchens Design

  • Modernist Mother-in-Law's Apartment, My home was built in 1950 and included a detached carport with a large two-room workshop. In January of this year, I embarked on a project to build a completely self-contained apartment for myself on the existing slab of the carport/workshop and invited my daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons to move into the main house. The new apartment was immediately dubbed "The Modernist Nest" by a fellow blogger and "Grammo's Little House" by my grandsons.

It took three months to complete the construction and a couple more months to landscape, but I'm finally in and enjoying my new 676 sf nest-space very much., Other Spaces Design
