  • Victorian inspired garden girls room-need more ideas, This space is for a 3 year old. We made the valances out of some fabric that I thought was great a nice Victorian feel. My husband put of the fence posts and pegs. I thought we could string some ribbon on it to make it look like a fancy clothesline to display all the art work she has been bringing home. I put the mirror low so my daughter could see herself but it looks like there's a lot of empty space still. What are your thoughts? , Girls' Rooms Design

  • Old style Rose Garden, The fence was an afterthought because the neighborhood rabbit started eating everything. Now I love having it for the miniature climbing roses to cling to. There are four on each enter easily from any direction. We are planing to have a formal sit down dinner here once the weather warms. The pathways make it easy to tend to the plants and it sounds great under foot., Gardens Design

  • Hydrangea Row, This is a rather small space along the east side of our kitchen-(60’ long and at its widest 6’); it borders our neighbor’s yard. There are 15 Hydrangeas in this little corridor with trumpet vine and roses climbing over the arbor. My father and husband built the fence. Because of soil conditions they range from pastels to deep blue and purple. I always think of my grandmother’s house when I look at them. Most of these bushes are over 20 years old. Originally this area was grass and hedge. , Gardens Design

  • My Mature Rose Garden Contends with Backhoe, My 5 year old rose and perenial garden was flourishing and part of the annual Historic Homes Garden Show by way of my blood, sweat and tears. I had no choice when the main water line to my 120 year old Victorian home needed to be replaced. Now my neighbors stop and look for other reasons. No more stopping and smelling the roses (14 bushes!) now. We not only lost 5 years of beautiful bushes and plants, but even our arbor and white picket fence!, Gardens Design

  • The Princess Bed!, Our 3 year old decided she wanted a separate room to sleep in verses the room where her crib was along with her "upstairs" toys. There was a 6x8 walk-in closet off her room that had 2 windows, crown molding, a light fixture, carpeted and even a power outlet. I used the built in shelves to create the twin size platform bed and chose colors that blended with the maroon carpet that is not in the budget to change. I made everything in this room from the shelving units and dressed them up with detail molding and I made all the bedding and curtains. The total cost of this renovation was under $100.00 and the inspiration was the print my daughter chose to go in her room... Aww Mommy the princess is asleep.... I want her please! She gives the princess a kiss every-night before bed. (The print in screwed to the wall so that she can not pull it down on herself). The room her crib was in is now her play room and she loves the additional space to play. The room is very traditional as in keeping with our historical 1835 home., Girls' Rooms Design
