  • Kitchen Renovation: Old School 70s to Modern Austin, Texas Metro, This is a townhome I purchased in 2008 in Austin, Texas. The goal was to modernize the kitchen.

This was an exhaustive, year long process. The biggest challenge was completing a project and seeing that every improvement made it apparent that once we finished one project we had to keep going to modernize it and everything out of date stuck out like a sore thumb.

Here's what I we did:

1. Removed old rectangular florescent lighting - installed six florescent spots
2. Cut out the bar counter-top and replaced with granite tile
3. Cut out a section of the wall and made it more breathable and open
4. Did not come with an exhaust vent - installed a GE Monogram Exhaust Vent
5. Removed pantry to make an island kitchen counter top
6. installed new ceiling and orange peel texture
7. painted ugly green 70s cabinets and counter to white
8. Installed new trim and molding around entry way
9. Installed hardwoods where pantry was located
10 Installed birch paneling around range counter

Except for a few contractors, my friend Robert Juler helped with with all projects. Thanks Robert!

I hope you like it., Kitchens Design

  • Bahh to Beautiful !, The space was the typical 1954 ranch style house. Small kitchen very dated and lacking storage space.

We took the wall out between the kitchen and dining room opening up the entire room to more light and a feeling of spaciousness.

The only cabinets in the old kitchen were on one side. We were able to add cabinets along the other side of the room, making the kitchen more of a galley style kitchen. This added more storage space that was really needed.

We built a bar to use for serving and an informal seating area between the kitchen and dining room.

The cabinets are manufactered cabinets from a local home center and the counter tops and backsplash are quartz. A new 16 inch square laminate tile floor was installed in the kitchen and dining room as well as the back entry and basement stairs., Kitchens Design

  • Totally cookin'!, This space is double in size of what it was before...added more cabinets, marble counter top and sink, plus a stained glass backsplash for the now vented new stove.. Being the artist that I am, I did not do the traditional straight color for everything, as those who come in, find my kitchen warm and inviting., Kitchens Design

  • Sumner kitchen, Since I am a young, single man and am still learning how to cook, I designed a huge kitchen so that many persons can be in the kitchen without a problem. I combined the original mudroom, the original and very small kitchen, and my mom's original bedroom to make a wonderful, and large, kitchen and bar. , Kitchens Design

  • Kitchen Remodel Galley Style, House was built in 1938 in East Kessler Park Dallas, TX. I believe the Kitchen had a remodel about 15 years ago. Here are the before and after pictures. I was able to remodel everything myself except the Kitchen countertop. I demo the back wall "hallway" where the flat top gas range is now, there was a build in cabinet that was never used. This gave me another 1 foot of aditional space along this wall in the kitchen. I also removed the existing door that lead into this hallway which created the galley style kitchen. I took the 2 Base cabinets for the sink & stove and pulled them off the wall approx. 3" with gave the kitchen a whole different look due to the normal galley style effect. Total cost was 15K. That includes new fridge, new five burner gas stove top, new glass vent a hood and dishwasher. The Countertop is made of Corain "rain cloud" new mix that gives the look of white marble with grey streaks. The backsplash is a custom design of glass mosaic and stainless steel tiles from a glass tile artist in up-state New York. The new cabinets are cherry with a chocolate glaze finsh. The floor is a multi-color slate "Earth Tone Colors, no Orange" on a diagonal pattern. The white upper cabinets are original to the Kitchen. I just had the glass frosted and changed the hardware., Kitchens Design
