  • From Boring to Brilliant, The old kitchen was a standard L-shaped layout with oak veneer cabinets and laminate countertops. The entire kitchen (and adjacent dining/living areas) was gutted. The old laundry closet was demoed to make space for the large open concept kitchen. New flooring, cabinets, countertops, backsplash, and lighting were installed. The finishing touch was the design of the new stair rail - now book case - that matches the kitchen cabinets and feels like a piece of furniture now. Makes the whole open concept first floor feel like home. Did I mention that I did most of this from Afghanistan? Ha! Doing a remodel from half a world away was quite the experience! , Kitchens Design

  • New porch for the cottage, Built a new front porch on my 1941 cottage. The original brick porch had a small step off the front door which was a tripping hazard. My goal was to level the surface while giving the porch an old fashion feel of porches long ago. I used a composite decking material for low maintenance. I beefed up the small 4 X 4 porch post with a more substantial 8 X 8 column wrap and added a porch rail. I also added moldings over the front door to dress it up. The porch is now a wonderful place to sit in the morning sun and greet my neighbors as they pass by., Porches Design

  • Almost Paradise View, We fulfilled a dream of ours when we purchased a lake house in 2008- a place for us to make memories with our two girls and the rest of our family and friends. We have done many projects in the house, but need help with the outdoor space. The deck and patio should be the best seats in the house, but with their awkward design, cracked cement, and overgrown landscaping, they leave a lot to be desired. We need help to make our deck and patio more functional and the focal point it should be for viewing and enjoying all the activities that take place on the lake- especially for the grandparents who need a comfortable place to enjoy watching their grandchildren and for Maddy, our daughter who is battling leukemia, who deserves a place to relax and leave all her worries behind!, Patios & Decks Design

  • Landscaper's Challenge - 3-Tier Deck, Landscaping our back yard has been a nightmare. We have a large drop off from our walk-out basement to level ground below and have slowly, over the years, tried to get from the house to our "back yard." We still need help! It is such a drop-off and rocky that we cannot mow the area. Weeds grow up until we spray them. We've planted some shrubs and plant material but have struggled to get a back yard that we love.

We also have 2 small children (3-mon, 3-years) and we're looking to create some type of play space for them -maybe a treehouse from the "flat back yard" area down yet another drop-off to our final flat area that has a small stream that flows through it. The uneven ground makes it difficult for the do-it-yourselver (my husband) to work.

We appreciate the comments!, Patios & Decks Design
