This kitchen was an absolute nightmare. We completely gutted it, and with the exception of countertop installation, we did everything ourselves. It is a small space, and we wanted it to be light and bright, so we used varying shades of white. We kept the original wall tile in yellow as a nod to the origins of the house, circa 1940.
This home was for rehabbed as part of an urban blight project, so there was minimal staging. It was designed to enable the new occupant to feel they could bring in their own things and really make the space reflect their own style.

We bought a new house with an old kitchen knowing we were going to create our dream kitchen. We gutted it and made our own space for friends and family to gather to cook eat and be social. I put before during construction and after pictures on here. We plan to put tile on the backsplash eventually.

It was time for our outdated 1950's kitchen to get a facelift!!! Everything came out.....cabinets, counters, floors, appliances. It was a long summer without a kitchen but well worth it in the end!! We did everything ourselves so it is our current pride and joy!

This kitchen, born in the 1940's has quite a history. It has morphed through decades of styles, but has maintained its period feel. More cabinets were added to replicate the original ones to keep the charm and cut the costs at the same time. Granite counter tops, sleek new faucets, under-mount sinks, a functional kitchen island, a wet bar and loads of storage updates this stuck in the '60's kitchen. Funky artwork pops with color harmonizing with the sleek elements of the hardware while the chandelier over the island echos to the original chandelier in the living room. This kitchen does not feel or look "done," It feels relaxed and inviting, like it is part of the evolution of the house.

Ours was a typical condo galley kitchen. We've begun our transformation by painting the melomine cabinets and adding a warm venetian plaster to the walls. My husband hand tooled the copper countertop. Now the "fast food" pass through is a usable space! We love antiques and wanted an updated traditional feel with a touch of old world charm. More to come...

The space is sunny and large with a bayed breakfast area and nice Southern exposure...but it needs to be opened to the DR or LR to loose the soffits & 80's finishes and to add lighting (only 1 center fixture. The rest of the townhome is contemporary and in an urban area so this space is sooo "ready" for a facelift!

We moved into a fixer-upper with a 1970's interior. Everything in the kitchen was dated and dirty! We were on a tight budget and didn't have much experience in remodeling but through a lot of internet study and a zillion trips to Lowes and Home Depot we were able to work our butts off and turn a 70's disaster into an old world traditional kitchen with a tuscan flair for under $5000.00. With the exception of the french door installation we did every bit of the work ourselves.

Love my new kitchen...but not sure about accessorizing with the stripes...The counters are beautiful black quartz with gold flecks. The wallpaper is an off white with black stripes which are thinly lined with a bronzy gold outlined edge... Need suggestions on how to warm up my new space!!
