  • Progress Paint for Definition & Character in the modest Master Bath – BLAH to Ahh, Not finished – but better defined by two tone paint. Your ideas are appreciated.
Context - color flow perspective, see adjacent Master Bedroom space, where the dark brown is found in the fabrics.

Views at end of collection are PROGRESS or BEFORE. Had to paint in phases to continue use – 10 distinct vertical surfaces in this unusually shaped room.

WHAT I DID
1. Paint - BEFORE – apricot (ew). AFTER - 2 tone for character (counter height transition). Used SW “Beach House” on top (taupe/tan color) and Olympic “Chasing Chocolate” at counter height and below (dark brown). Retained peach BEIGE (more subtle a color, whereas the apricot color was harsh) on far wall and tub area top section.
2. At bath: Added art grouping and white ledge (holds candles, music remote, and a beverage glass-when in use, otherwise, as pictured - scent diffuser reeds)

  • our cozy "fun cave" master bedroom, our master bedroom was boring, boring, boring...and cold! it was all original pre-printed paneling...and in dire need of a warm up! we used the painted wainscott look so we wouldn't have to see all-one-color again and the tan really helped the blue warm up the room!, Bedrooms Design

  • Our tight budget kitchen remodel , We started on what was a plan to simply tear out the cabinets that hung over the bar to open up the kitchen a little.. But that turned into a tight budget kitchen update if you will... We spent less than 1000$ excluding the new appliances. I'm very happy with how it turned out and the pictures really don't do it justice..

What we did:
tore out a row of existing cabinets that hung over the bar. We used that wood to build a display cabinet with plate rack.
Bought all new hardware and bin pulls
Tore out saltio tile and replaced with oak plywood plank flooring that I white washed and stenciled
Cover backsplash and side wall with breadboard
Put up some decorative finials that I had on hand under the cabinets
Bought two new fisherman style lights.
Gave the top cabinets a fresh coat of paint and painted the bottom cabinets a blue and did a dark wax.
I would like to eventually put in butcher block counters but with this not being our forever home the tile ones will work for now..

Love how open our kitchen fills now

  • SMALL space cosmetic surgery - Guest Bath gets low cost face lift! , Context – Guest bath off the high contrast dark brown/white trim HALL space (with yellow and brown canvas artwork).

ALMOST done. STILL TO DO
1. As with other rooms, haven’t found the right replacement LIGHTING to remove the builder grade fixture.
2. Color is an improvement over all white (see B4), but considering other shades of green. I love the immediate satisfaction of changing a paint color…
* I welcome ideas on where to look for lighting that’s my style (your space?) and other paint concepts.

What’s changed from BEFORE (shown, including progress photos):
- As throughout the home: faucet fixtures, added light dimmer, and exhaust fan timer
- Hardware - Cabinet, towel and TP holders
- Green Paint
- Floating shelves
- Frame added to mirror
- Art (with additional painted frame), Bathrooms Design

  • Candice Olson Inspired Kitchen, This contemporary kitchen was inspired by a Candice Olson design. There is a light and airy feel to this space because it opens up to the dining room but it also has 2 french doors that open up to a beautiful deck that adds living space outdoors. The wall colour is a Sarah Richardson colour by Para and the cabinets are Ikea. The two granite choices add interest to the space by complimenting the white and dark wood cabinets. This budget conscious kitchen is high on style even though it is low on cost. , Kitchens Design

  • Double Take - A Transitional Kosher Kitchen, When my client approached me to design her kitchen only two things mattered 1) she wanted something that was somewhere in between traditional and contemporary [easy enough] and 2) it had to be a kosher kitchen [interesting]. Two-toned cabinets engineered stone countertops sleek stainless steel appliances and a sparkling blend of glass and metal tiles for the backsplash set up a beautiful palette for a hardworking kitchen where form had to follow function. www.markbrownleedesign.com, Kitchens Design

As soon as we moved in we tore down the wallpaper, smoothed out the "popcorn" textured ceiling, painted the walls and trim, and added our own furniture and accents. In the years to follow we've arranged and rearranged the furniture. At some point we hope to get rid of the bulky tv in the corner and replace it with a flat screen tv on the wall to the right of the fireplace, but that might not happen for a while.

Please leave comments and any ideas on how to further improve the space. Thanks!, Living Rooms Design

  • Cottage Kitchen makeover on a budget, We have hopes of a complete kitchen reno one of these days, but to hold us over until then we spruced up what was already there. We did have to replace the floors, counters, and sink/faucet because they were in terrible shape! The cabinets are painted with a two tone effect and we added bead board for the back splash. This really makes the small space feel larger. We added crown molding to the tops of the cabinets and switched out the cabinet hardware. We recently added stainless steel appliances. The floating shelves were installed after we had to lose a window due to adding on a laundry room to the back of our house. The new laundry room was well worth the loss of a window, and I love the open shelving. Visit me at graceleecottage.blogspot.com, Kitchens Design
