  • Our Master Suite, We used the teal/sea foam color from the bathroom as inspiration for the rest of the room. It's our old furniture with a new bedspread and accessories. Most of my styles are contemporary or country, but I'm not sure how to classify this room. Any ideas?, Bedrooms Design

  • 1404's DIY Eclectic, Relaxed Workspace, A spare bedroom turned home office that we designed to marry our eclectic style with workspace function on a budget. Me (Alyse) and my husband Edmund needed a place to work from home, so we Craigslisted the desk and gave it a mini-makeover by lacquering the top white. We also wanted a quiet place to read or sit, so we found a sofa (also from Craigslist) that looked good AND folded into a bed for overnight guests--double duty! We DIY'd the shelves (wall mounted to save floorspace), the curtains, and the reading light. The newsroom-style clocks are a nod to our family in other countries: Edmund's whole family lives in Ireland and my father lives and works in Iraq. Throw in a few accessories and a vintage desk lamp from my grandmother, and we finished the whole thing up for under $400., Home Offices Design

  • Horizontal Stripes and Polka Dots for Girls: Pink, Teal, Lime, Tan, Two little princesses started with a plain light gray room. With the purchase of new bunk beds & new polka dot bedding, we needed something girly to jazz up the new space. We taped off horizontal stripes to coordinate, and the attached bath uses polka dots in the coordinating colors and the same princess theme. It uses bubble gum pink, lime green, light teal/turquoise, and tan/khaki. The wall of baskets was pricey but is invaluable storage for toys and such. The whole project was kid-friendly and fun and on a budget., Girls' Rooms Design

  • It's Curtains For French Doors, I rent a "technical" two bedroom in downtown SF. Technically and actually, there are double French doors leading from one room to the next. After a few months of light sleep and flicks of light coming through square panes of glass, I decided to board up the dividing doors with cardboard and duct tape. I then hung a curtain rod across the width and two curtains to form a fabric wall. S-hooks and a little twine made it easy to hang square mirrors off the curtain rod at varying heights. I balanced the accent fabric wall with painted concentric squares in gray-on-pink on the facing wall, running horizontal gray stripes around the entire room. Low level scale of all fixtures and furniture in my room work to create a greater sense of space from floor to ceiling. It feels HUGE. I popped the seat off a metal and plastic office chair, using the seat with a cushion on my shag rug. The bottom half of the chair I put a green serving tray on top and use now as a bedside table. I love my room now and hope you guys do too!, Bedrooms Design

  • Decoupage and Stencil Accent Wall, I needed an accent wall to anchor this room. The other walls are white painted paneling. Once I skimmed this wall smooth, I colored Kraft paper in a marbled look using a dark gray to match the sofa. The stenciling was with metallic paints in a varied surface application for lots of interest and energy. Hope you like it., Living Rooms Design
