  • Rustic...I just want to be Rustic!!, I turned 50 Dec. 2008, and 2 days later I was laid off from my job. I don't have the money to turn this kitchen into the respectable place it should be. My husband and I got into the rustic style of furnishings for our home and we'd like to design our kitchen in that style. We rarely invite anyone over to our home as it's in bad need of repair. We put an addition on our home that is just a few feet away from our kitchen and one wall is all kitchen cabinets and countertop. The other side is our dryer and we need to move the washer next to it once we get the plumbing for that done. The very end of the addition will be my husbands office. I would like to move our fridge either into the wall where the microwave is or we do have space in the addition. Please email me or write your comments on what you think could be done with these pictures to achieve a backwoods, rustic space. , Kitchens Design

  • 70s meets Rustic Outdoors, This is the guest bathroom in our first house! We are still trying to figure out the mystery of the indoor ceder shingles. Perhaps that last owner wanted to distract from the lovely yellow-green this bathroom is plagued with. Any chance this style may come back any time soon, or should we be deeply embarrassed whenever we have guests? , Bathrooms Design

  • Lake House Living Room, This is our newest project, little by little we are finishing off what we envisioned. The living room in the lake house needed to be relaxing, inviting, warm and modern at the same time so we mixed a few elements (like wall color, clean line sofa and rustic wood stove) to achieve a sophisticated and inviting look for our space. , Living Rooms Design

  • Basment transformed into bedroom/apartment, I live with my mom just had a baby and I re-did the basement as well as I could with my limited budget and this is what I did. It looks a million times better. It had the old nasty wood paneling and i wasn't sure how to get rid if the lines on the walls in between the paneling at the time so i just panted it a light purple to brighten up the space. it used to have nasty orange retro carpet and we pulled that up and painted it with that special paint for concrete floors but we had a flood recently and some of it chipped but most of the basement is covered in area rugs and now im researching different things you can go with drop ceiling tiles so any ideas please share. , Basements Design

  • Facelift for the Kitchen, Well I designed this with the 2X3 piece of marble my customer gave me in Naperville IL. the modern flat black granite was not working in this traditional setting. Then the builder thought it would be ok to put a contrasting gold island top to set it all off. , Kitchens Design

  • Spa like on a small budget, from old and plain for 1,600, Spa like on a small budget, from old and plain. My son and daughter in law recently bought a new home. They asked me to redo their bathroom. They wanted shades of brown and that is what they got. It was a good size bathroom but it had a lot of wasted space. I gutted the room and while doing so I found an open space beside the tub in which I added a wonderful built in storage space. The tub was taken out and replaced with a shower. The counter site was moved to the side wall and doubled in size. The cabinets have tilt outs and the silent close feature. The cabinet on the right has a laundry shoot to the laundry room below. The cabinets and granite counter top were a wonderful find for their budget. They could have easily spent most of their budget on just the cabinet and counter top. The counter top is St. Cecilia with a beautiful edge and under mount sink. Everything in the bathroom is new and it was all done for $ 1,600.00. I love shopping for bargains. It really pays to shop around when doing a remodel.

  • Big Design, Small Space., There is a small strip of land that runs along the side of my garage. A sinuous path of stepping stones connect the driveway to the back gate. I built the gate as well two summers ago with my stepson. After a few more additions are made to the garden I'll be putting in pavers just uphill from it adjacent to the driveway so I'll have some new before and after pictures of that project coming soon. Hope you enjoy my garden., Gardens Design
