  • We had to build our backyard!, We didn't really have a functional backyard. We back right up to woods so we excavated the hill and brush to push out the yard and put in a retaining wall giving us a nice big flat backyard. The wall is around 7 ft. tall for those of you who were wondering. If we went higher than that we would have had to have put a fence in above it., Yards Design

  • Kitchen Rock Make-Over, One of the last frontiers in our home design effort - and one of the most costly. It started out as we found it from the builder with 10-year old appliances and a high-quality but dated tile counter top.

We started by replacing the appliances - the oven/microwave combo was replaced with a double convection oven. The refrigerator was updated with stainless, over and under design. The dishwasher with a simple stainless steel front and concealed controls. The sink went from a double-well salmon-colored porcelain to a large single well stainless, with updated faucet.

Finishing off the first round of updates was the removal (agggh!) of the ceramic tile countertop and installation of black galaxy granite.

Oh yes, we replaced the electric cooktop with gas, and added another cabinet unit on the center island to conceal the trash and recycle bins and extend the workspace for an extra set of burners and counter space.

All that's left is paint for the small remaining wall spaces....

The reason for adding this page is to get some ideas about colors for the wall. We're playing around with a brick-red, a green bordering on gray, a bronze..., Kitchens Design
