While most people want a master bath to be spa-like, we live on a farm and need ours to be mud/laundry/bath room all in one to keep from tracking dirt throughout the house. The room is now EXTREMELY functional for us, plus we think it looks stunning.

Visit our powder bath that has broken slate walls, hand imprinted plaster and copper vessel sink with wall controls. Complete with hard wood floors and chandellier. Custom motion sensor turns sink spotlight on upon entry, and the chandellier illuminates the custom plaster and dances light off of the textures.

We had a house fire, needed more space for a large family so we renovated and knocked out the dining room to make a small mud room and large kitchen. We could never have friends over because the dining room was small and useless and now we have a booth to fit our family of 7 and can have 5-6 guests at the table and room for stools around the island.

I had an incredibly small bathroom originally, shaped like the letter L and I had the wall taken out and french doors added. The slate floor and walk in shower with marble tile tops were added and I put up the small slate shelving myself with the extra tiles. I also built the mirror myself with a slight slant forward to see better instead of the traditional flat against the wall version of the vanity. The sink and closet doors are from ikea, but the shelving and frame I built myself with scrap wood from an earlier project in the kitchen. Overall I'm really pleased with the outcome.

I renovated my 1976 old, ugly, and small (8 1/2' X 6' bathroom with pink walls, tub, and sink and transformed it into a comfortable and inviting hotel spa bathroom that is the envy of my entire condominium building--all for $10,000 (but it looks like I paid more!.

This is our weekend labor of love. We spent long nights and many Sundays building our spa like master bath. This was an empty attic space when we first started. Over 2 months we did everything from building walls to tile work. This was a true do it yourself from start to finish. We used Travertine tile and sinks along with copper accents and slate for the shower, but my favorite thing is laundry shoot. I am interested in seeing if others like it as much as we do. Thanks for looking!

From a builder grade master bath. All chrome fixtures, mainly Hansgrohe Axor Massaud. Enormous 3-way showerhead and tub filler with shower wand.
Replaced the whirlpool tub with a Neptune Ruby 3666 airtub, to get rid of the gunk and slime that recirculates with a whirlpool (nasty things those are!. The area behind the tub is covered with slate stackstone, which winds around to make the backsplash. The slate is becoming more colorful by the day, as the sealer dries and/or evaporates.
Ceiling cans have been updated with Cree LR6 LED retrofits, using only 10.5 watts each, and they should last over 20 years.
We took the old mirror to a frame shop, where they cut it down into two pieces and put it into the frames we had selected. This let us get exactly the size and look we wanted.
Not shown: dual-flush Toto Aquia III toilet.

To add space and light to our 12' x 5' bathroom we removed the fiberglass tub enclosure and added a bay window measuring 4'x5' along with a 3' x 5' shower pan. The room looks out on a private green space so privacy was not an issue, however a flexible white trellis wraps around the window to shade the summer sun. The window sits on a redwood deck which extends out another 18 inches and holds several oversized planters and solar lights. I'm an artist by trade so I used the shower area as a canvas and went wild with tile!
My husband and I work together...he gets to do all the dirty work...I get to do the fun stuff.
We used our local salvage yards to find most of the tile, paint and also the large garden window. The floor tile was purchased from a tile source going out of business, so really only the glass block and the sink and faucet was purchased as 'new'.
Oh, the wood...its from a giant sequoia,27 hundred years old...it has beautiful colors and added the rustic yet rich look I wanted for the space.
There is a short story about the big tree at http://westcoastmetalart.com/sequoialumber.htm
