Unlike the old-world basement bath in our previous house (see "Roman" bath if interested the basement in our new house got a simple powder room. No "party" shower no sauna ... just a clean almost minimalist look. When is less more? As always thanks for visiting!
CEILING PAINT is different from the wall paint. Ceiling paint is a light silver metallic paint by Ralph Lauren (Home Depot, while walls are painted with Ben Moore Smokestack Gray. Ceiling took 5 coats but was well worth it.

Our "basic builder" bathroom previously consisted of a 5x8 space with your basic, boring white vanity, white tub, and white cheap-o tile, and boring wall paper. We were inspired by several of the bathrooms we saw on this website plus many HGTV shows that gave us the inspiration we needed. We wanted a contemporary spa feel with modern amenities. Although our space is small we took advantage of the high 9' ceiling by running the tile all the way to the ceiling and installing 4" recessed lighting. This really draws your eye up! We used 18x18 tiles on the wall, 6x6 on the shower floor, and a great 1" tile around the vanity and toilet. It's actually a mix of glass tile and slate. The vanity, sink, and faucet were purchased on-line and the mirror was cut locally to fit the exact space.
We are thrilled at the transformation and can't believe how much bigger our 5x8 space now appears!
ADDED INFO-- Thank you all for the kind comments, we are amazed at the feedback! Thank You! Several questions have been asked about the cost and materials, so here's the info....
COST-- We loved the comment about estimating the cost at $40,000. Actually, it cost $8,000 for everything.
DESIGNER-- Someone asked if we hired a professional designer. Nope. We are addicted to HGTV and picked up lots of tips and ideas from the show (esp. Candice, Vern, Angelo and David Bromstad and this website. We purchased all of the materials ourselves. We did some of the work ourselves and hired a great contractor for the tough stuff.
FAUCET-- Purchased at ExpressDecor.com for $139
VANITY-- It's a Decolav vanity (5510-ES that includes the sink. EveryVesselSink.com for $900
TILE-- All purchased at Expo (Isn't it a shame that they are all closing!. 1x1 Glass Tile/Slate were the most expensive of all of the materials! $32/sf. From Oceanside Glass Tile (glasstile.com it's Geologie High Desert. The 18x18 shower wall tile is from Daltile (5202 Golddust @ $2/sf. The 6x6 shower floor tile is CTI Tile (Rex Shabui, Charcoal Black.
MIRROR- cut locally and custom frame from Aaron Brothers.
PAINT-- Sherwin-Williams (SW6078 Realist Beige.
Thanks again for all of the kind remarks! If we can do it-- so can you!

The house was built in 1956 and we moved in just under a year ago. This full bathroom is on the main living floor; there is a full master bath downstairs. All tile and fixtures are original; all we changed was the wall color and added the accessories. Before the yellow the room felt cold and cavernous. Not any more!

We currently have this home on the market. It is located in Missouri in the Branson School District. For more information and to look at a virtual tour, the MLS number is 341835. Would make a great permanent residence or vacation home.
I chose to have the powder room painted "Sweet Georgia Brown". It is a small space but I wanted to use a rich color on both the walls and ceiling. The vanity is stained black and distressed. The sink is a talavera from Mexico. I chose travertine for the countertops and backsplash. The artwork came from a flea market and the colors work well with the sink. The mirror was from a local antique store.

We found this Spec-Home in Mid-Construction and were able to find discounted tumbled marble and travertine accents to add to the builders basic beige tile. The wooded view in summer is amazing but in winter privacy is an issue. I added sheer embroidered fabric to the screens which lets in the light and the view and is removeable when things "green up" again in the spring.

This master bathroom suite is 10 ft by 10 ft and includes a large cast iron soaking tub seperate enclosed shower carrera marble vanity and European fittings. Two palladian windows add plenty of light to my new bathroom in my 106 year old house. The paint color is Light French Gray (720E-2 from Behr. I've added a picture of our bathroom before we started renovating it. The house had been vacant for quite some time. We'll try to add another room soon. Thanks for all of the comments!

When designing this bathroom I knew I wanted the bathtub the main focus. The trim carpenters did an excellent job making my vision a reality.

Our guest/pool bath. Kept existing light tile countertop and faucet. Painted vanity white and gave it a "furniture" look and new hardware. (DH had a cow! Installed chair rail small crown molding and framed the mirror. Everyone insists faux finish is wallpaper. More DIY stuff on my blog http://www.ratemyfavoritespaces.com

Just finished the renovation on my master bathroom I replaced the soaker tub with a claw foot tub that I got for $90 because it had a little scratch on it that you can barely see! It makes the space much more open. I replaced the vanity with one I got on ebay ($900 which has a beautiful travertine counter top and 2 vessel sinks built in. I used brown grass cloth on the walls that looks like linen. Got the mirrors at Zgallery and splurged on the seamless shower doors. The lights, faucets, and towel warmer came from Signature Hardware. (They are online

When we purchased a new home in 2002, it came with a 32" shower and a heart shaped tub that faced the toilet and was so big it took more water than what was available in the hot water heater. The sinks did not have any storage area for toiletries. We ripped out the walls, extending into a guest room, and created a large travertine shower with dual heads and niches. The sink area has natural stone vessels, manmade stone top and pull-out drawers for make-up and hair dryer. The cabinets were hand made out of walnut. We love it!
