It was a big challenge to work with such a small space and a limited budget with high expectations. My inspiration for the whole room was a grouping of canvases that I painted a contemporary paisley pattern. First I replaced my track celing fan with a chandelier that adds a great sparkling affect to the new striped off white metalic walls. I added a vanity that I purchased from an auction, I used a crackel finish with silver and topped it off with the metalic paint. I took the mirror off and decided to use the previous vanity as a contemporary desk. I also purchased an old oak buffet and spruced it up with off white paint and silver accents to become my entertainment/storage credenza. I finished the room with layers of coordinating fabrics for the bed and drapes. I am so pleased with how it turned out I love the shiny affect that the room has, I enjoyed working on the room and now spending time in my paisley glamour bedroom :

This is a pic of a little study in a former home of mine I used a vintage aluminum tree with shiny ball ornaments...and a spinning color wheel. An old department store Santa is on the hearth. TInsel garland and some old decorations from my childhood. I also used shiny vintage paper for the gifts. I know it is MUCH but i liked it..it reminded me of how Christmas looked when I was growing up....flashy and tacky but beautiful to a child.

The hospital shiny/white kitchen 1970's formica cabinets are blinding.
The ugly formica counters and ugly linoleum floor just completes the picture.
The appliances are new but also white.
The kitchen is a nice size, with lots & lots of ugly cabinets, countertops and flooring. The effect is complete & overwhelming

Gut remodel of a dark, dysfunctional kitchen created a bright, open room with contemporary style and sparkle, doubled the counter space, and tripled the usable cabinet space.

When I purchased my fixer-upper back in 2009, I planned to invest every bit of my $8K first-time home buyer tax credit into the home. I understood that most of the budget would go towards the kitchen and bathroom, but I knew I'd have to keep costs low, as I didn't want to spend the entire $8K in the kitchen alone.
I am very fortunate to have a skilled and generous family. I have an uncle who is a full-fledged contractor and family members who are quick learners and extremely hard workers. This was a true DIY project.
This is a small portion of our living room. End table to be exact. Still finishing the rest of the room and will post when done but I love this simple classic look.

This kitchen was drab and dark. We brightened it up by ripping everything out and replacing with modern cabinets mosaic tiles and new paint. Lots of work but definitely worth it!

We tried to personalize our Standard Issue condo kitchen with tile and wall color and decals. Our inspiration came from Mid Century Design and Jonathan Adler "Happy Chic"
