  • Small U-Shape Budget Kitchen, Our ktichen is too narrow (only 11' wide) for an island. There are 7 doorways impossible to move w/o gutting the entire downstairs. So we worked with the space we had. We saved money by keeping all the working appliances: refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave. Only range and toaster oven were replaced.

Unfortunately the soffits contained major plumbing and electric so only a portion could be removed. The rest were reduced in width and height. A smaller table was substituted and the peninsula widened for stools. The extra width made that counter a really improved workspace. A small tray cabinet (below) and pullout spice cabinet (above) were squeezed between the range and refrigerator. The kitchen might be small but fortunately has a large pantry all along a hall just behind it.

So what do you think? Should we paint the walls/soffit a color? Or keep it white?

  • Basic to Bodacious Transformation!, Our kitchen has been "taken to the next level" with this remodel - very little remains the same and we love it! New design includes much more area, greatly enhanced floor plan, incorporation if a great island / breakfast bar, teak flooring, mosiac glass backsplash, Silestone counters and all new cabinets and appliances. Basic design strategy was to increase the size, functionality, relationship of the kitchen to the Great Room, as well as an upgrade of everything from mid 90's to 2012! Your comments are appreciated!, Kitchens Design

  • B and B's City House Backyard Garden, We started with just the big trees...did everything else from scratch...even dug the pond by hand. The pond is about 5000 gallons (25' x 13'). The large rock patio is in the shape of a giant leaf. One of these days I will take a photo from the roof so you can see that the bricks in the "v" shape form the veins of the leaf. I love having parties on "the leaf". Hurricane Ike photos added., Gardens Design
