  • Before and After: Builders Oak to Shaker Cherry, Thought I'd post before and after pictures of my kitchen which underwent a complete remodel over 6 weeks. Our original kitchen had builder grade oak cabinets from the mid-90's. Nothing special. My new dream kitchen has natural cherry shaker cabinets with granite countertop. It features an island, peninsula, double ovens and warming drawer, 36" gas cooktop with chimney hood, and an undercounter beverage refrigerator. , Kitchens Design

  • 1940's Tiled Kitchen, Original 1945 tiled kitchen with original cupboards new Shaker doors to match the doors in the house I found a 1930's light on E-bay for over the sink. It didn't have any cupboards over the stove so I had some built to match the existing design and I found a small cupboard at Target that went along with the Shaker style I just added matching hardware. I kept the original hole in the ceiling from the old stove vent as a conversation piece., Kitchens Design

  • Contemporary shaker, The builder of my house was somewhat flexible for customization, which was great but daunting.
I liked the shaker cabinets, but went with a honey maple and added barpull handles. The granite has an eased edge that enhances the geometry of the cabinets. I wanted a honed granite, but the price was much higher and I was worried about maintenance. I think it worked out well though.
I upgraded all the appliances, as the standard was the 'stainless' whirlpool range, but it seemed pretty tacky. I tried to get the handles of the appliances to all be barpull to add some continuity, even though they are from different manufacturers. The microwave is hidden in the cabinets on the right.
My favorite tweak is cheap LED under cabinet lighting from Ikea. I used an x10 relay controller so they are remotely switched.
My one regret is the slate backsplash as its a bit dark., Kitchens Design

  • Pat Cypruss Shaker, This is the kitchen I saw in my head, but could not describe to the carpenters. I wanted the cabinets as simple as possible, and only sealed, not stained. These are the appliances I thought about the whole time I was doing most of the work myself. My cabinet builder was amazing., Kitchens Design

  • Contemporary Kitchen, Recently remodeled double galley style kitchen. The cabinets are Shaker style in Maple Spice, and the counter tops are engineered stone in Eclipse Blue.
The walls are textured using the issue paper technique from HGTV's painting tips, and we chose to use two shades of gray for the faux finishing. The base color is cement-toned, and the top color is a deep blue-gray.
We were able to completely replace this kitchen for $27,000 including appliances.
