  • Persimmon , Homage to the 70s! we went for a pretty wild carpet but paired it with taupe-greys and charcoal to give it a modern update. We really didnt want to to stray to far from the origins of the NW contemporary architecture, we took away more than we added, Living Rooms Design

  • Bitchen Kitchen, This is actually the kitchen in the condo I just moved out of in Anchorage Alaska. Hopefully my new one will be just as cool but probably not. :p The cabinets and sink are original to the building which was built in 1946. The cabinets are made of sheet metal and the sink top extends for the whole counter on that side. It was small but still a really nice kitchen. , Kitchens Design

  • Classic Retro Modern, I designed this living room in Florida to reflect a fun, passionate lifestyle. Most people who see my spaces think that thousands of dollars were spent to create them, and they are surprised to find that this whole room cost less to do than what most people spend on a typical sofa, loveseat, and chairs. If you are on a budget and need a creative affordable decorator, I'm your answer man. Shoot me an email anytime, and I can help make your space what you need it to be., Living Rooms Design

  • Oklahoma Mid Century Modern Time Capsule, This is both the Living Room and Family Room of our 1959 Mid Century Modern Time Capsule home, designed by William Burgett and the original owner, Dr. L. Millis. Located in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the home is not only in near original condition, including sparkling faucets, a 1960 Cinderella tub, copper chevron handles, and bullet sconces, but is very Eichler/Frank Lloyd Wright-ish and is situated on 2 acres. The new owners were extremely fortunate, and received blueprints for both the home and the gardens with the purchase. The home has been furnished with Pearsall, Baumritter and other original, MCM pieces., Living Rooms Design

  • 1404's DIY Eclectic, Relaxed Workspace, A spare bedroom turned home office that we designed to marry our eclectic style with workspace function on a budget. Me (Alyse) and my husband Edmund needed a place to work from home, so we Craigslisted the desk and gave it a mini-makeover by lacquering the top white. We also wanted a quiet place to read or sit, so we found a sofa (also from Craigslist) that looked good AND folded into a bed for overnight guests--double duty! We DIY'd the shelves (wall mounted to save floorspace), the curtains, and the reading light. The newsroom-style clocks are a nod to our family in other countries: Edmund's whole family lives in Ireland and my father lives and works in Iraq. Throw in a few accessories and a vintage desk lamp from my grandmother, and we finished the whole thing up for under $400., Home Offices Design

  • Modernist Mother-in-Law's Apartment, My home was built in 1950 and included a detached carport with a large two-room workshop. In January of this year, I embarked on a project to build a completely self-contained apartment for myself on the existing slab of the carport/workshop and invited my daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons to move into the main house. The new apartment was immediately dubbed "The Modernist Nest" by a fellow blogger and "Grammo's Little House" by my grandsons.

It took three months to complete the construction and a couple more months to landscape, but I'm finally in and enjoying my new 676 sf nest-space very much., Other Spaces Design

  • Modern Retro Living Room, I wanted to update my living room with white, black, burnt orange and touch of blue. The show "Mad Men" was my inspiration; I had the sofa, chairs and table covers custom made. I live in the Middle East, so it's very reasonable to get things made. I was also able to reuse a few pieces of furniture by spray painting them black., Living Rooms Design

  • Space-efficient spa-like bathroom, When we moved in, our bathroom was outdated, ugly, full of mold, and very inefficient. We transformed it into a clean, modern, efficient bathroom with a spa-like feel that also fits in with the rest of our house, which was built in 1958. This bathroom is only 5' x 8' so we had to get creative to make it feel spacious. My husband rebuilt the subfloor and did all of the tile work himself, I painted, and we hired a contractor to do the electrical and plumbing. The vanity, mirror cabinet, sink, and shelving was purchased from Ikea. The shower wall was custom made. We gutted the entire bathroom and only spent about $3500 for the entire remodel., Bathrooms Design

  • Happy Danish Modern Living Room Colors, I live in the Pacific NW with the gray and rainy days that can go on for long stretches.
