  • A new paradise, We bought a new construction home two years ago. We had to put the entire backyard in ourselves including our fence. Over the past two summers we have lived here, we have put up a fence, built a french drain, under ground sprinkler system, patio, rock wall, garden beds, and now we just finished landscaping from all recycled/repurposed plants that were one in someone else's garden! Why waste good plants? And lucky me, two master gardeners invited me out to pick through their yards, after seeing my wanted add on craigslist. I feel very blessed, Gardens Design

  • 600 dollar throw away house II, I bought this house for $600 dollars at a tax sale auction and set out to remodel and redo it with a very small amount of money! It has been redone with free, recycled, repurposed items with paint being the only major expense! I searched all over town and hit curb piles, had friends, neighbors and whoever I could talk into keeping a look out.. watch for discarded items. Soon, people began to bring me things they thought might look good in my house! No area was free from scrounging, including the city compost pile where people dumped amazing treasures!, Kitchens Design

  • Rental Kitchen!, We are military and we just moved in this home about 2 months ago. This is my 3rd kitchen in 3 years! It's slowly progressing but what do you think so far? I dream of a white kitchen with tons of character but for now, I will try to add my own :)

  • Brooklyn Secret Garden, I've been working on my backyard space since 2011, replacing overgrown weeds and invasive ivy, and cycling out found furniture for more sturdy pieces. Over time I've added a small stone wall-enclosed planter, compost bin, cold frame, raised beds, a bench and table I constructed. It's surely a labor of love. , Gardens Design

  • RESTYLED RESOLUTION, Back in December, I was asked to be a guest on Discover Interior Design blog, and to write 2010 DESIGN RESOLUTIONS. Although I never had really ever given them much thought, I wrote them and have been applying them to our home.

Applied 2010 RESTYLE RESOLUTIONS and pushed myself to 'think out of the box' and rethink our space. Color FOCUS is centered in the space, while salon styled wall arrangements act as book-ends on opposite endwalls of the space. Pattern is inferred with white on white window panels. Bold printed B&W lamp shades connect with the B&W rug to add a graphic layer to the space. MOST objects were already on hand. The only NEW additions were: $10 thrift table, $10 print (only), and two printed lampshades for $25. Total cost for 'on TREND' look: $70.

  • Hybrid Toddler/Big Kid Room, My daughter's room was designed to grow with her. The pieces we chose are straight simple lines that are neutral enough for any type of bedding and any decor. This will make it easier for us to change her room when her tastes change. We found a daybed frame online through our local resale stores and make plans to do a dark stain on the bed to match her repurposed bookshelf and chair we picked up on our travels., Bedrooms Design

  • 50 shades of grey, Each piece in this room was bought used and repurposed. The Buffet was a vintage piece that has been painted and accented with grey and silver. The China hutch was purchased used and an artist touched up the piece using silver, pewter and cream. She also painted a vine design on the piece.
The mirrored chest was bought used. The Mirror over that piece and lamp is new. The Painting "Lady in White was painted by me 30 years ago. The mirrors and accent pieces are garage sale pieces that I painted silver. The large Snail named Aunty Sue is from my best friend. The Walls are a dark grey. I do intend to add more art work in time. The table is rod iron and glass and was given to me along with the chairs that I painted and recovered in black and white toile. The rug is several shades of grey and is a shag bought at Home Depot. Most items in the china hutch and on the buffet are from Craig's list or garage sales. This room was the living room and I switched rooms since I entertain a lot and needed a larger dining area. The Chandelier was missing pieces so I got it at a discount. I replaced the missing pieces with Christmas decorations from Pier one. I still need to replace one strain of beads. Not sure what to do about window treatments for sliders? Ideas are needed. Thank you

  • Recycled & Repurposed Vintage Modern Family Room, Our space is a testament of our passion. We set out to give old and unwanted materials new life in order to create a room that is almost completely composed with recycled content. Thus 99% of our home was created using recycled repurposed and cast-off materials; this was our way of "going green". Our hope is that you find our space inspiring and can add a little bit of "recycled" to your home. The style could be called "Mid-Century Modern Natural". Thanks for looking!, Living Rooms Design

  • Not a little girl anymore, My 21 year old daughter moved home for graduate school and I wanted to give her a comfortable space to study and hang out. I divided the space into a bed and a living area. I created many repurposed peices in order to stay green and safe money. The end product was a space that was much more mature and comfortable. She loved it and I loved creating it for her., Bedrooms Design
