This is our living room and dining room. We wanted it to be traditional with an Arts and Crafts flavor, in caracter with the Tudor revival style popular when it was built in 1930.
We chose a mossy green wall color, again a very popular choice from the 30s but spiced it up with apple green and purple accents and upholstered furniture. The inspiration was the beautiful carpet in the living room.
The artwork and photographs are all items handed down from our families. It is wonderful to be able to work these cherished items in to our cottage without it looking too much like Grandma's place!
We thought the dining room needed some style of it's own, so we bought some standard oak stock at the local home center, stained it to match the original window millwork and created the dado panels. We got rid of all the drapes, opting instead for the clean, spare look of wooden 2" blinds.
The floors are all original also, random width pine planks with pegs.
The result is a very restful, comforting space that has some elegance without being too formal.

I bought the chairs and the only color we came up with for the walls was a contrasting plum color - please let me know if it works! I painted the painting trying to copy a Pier 1 version on the cheap. I also made the curtains. The table is stone (very heavy!.

I have been contemplating what color to paint my kitchen. I love the Shabby Chic look but I also love the apple color. So with other great rate my space inspirations - I took the plunge.. painting my dining room with the apple / cream stripes. I had already painted my table black to accent my dark cherry cupboards. I trimmed my space in the black toile. I still need a rug for under the table any ideas??? and I intend to add a crystal chandelier. Thanks for looking, Hope you like

French doors from our main entrance living room lead into the small dining room of our 1920's brick bungalow. The dining room has a built in cabinet and an old entrance was turned into an enclosed green room in the 50's. We refinished the original hardwoods in the dining room to add warmth and had new clean ceilings put up to cover the old popcorn. The wall art work was made by me and my husband.

Newly Renovated Living Room and Dining Room. Home was built in Dec. 1969 with all the 70's Glory. Before it had a wall with only a door opening to the dining room orange and brown floor to ceiling brick firepalce and 70's walnut molding. I am so glad that is all gone.....My husband and myself have done all the renovations in our home with a lot of hard work and a very small budget.

Living room started out as a blank slate - beige walls, stained beige carpet, outdated fixtures and furniture. Now it has warm wood floors, tawny beige walls with green accent wall and new trasitional furniture. The new transitional sectional and wonderful area rug were the inpsiration for everything else in the space.

Our dining room opens to the kitchen and is relatively small. But we love to entertain so a somewhat formal space was in order. The sheers on the windows are Croscill Imperial in black. I love them and want to use them but I've never been satisfied with the way I've done them. Please give me some ideas to make the bay window look better. Don't miss the last picture. It shows what the dining room looked like when we bought the house.

We have just moved into a new home where we have a great room which encompasses our lving room, dining room, opens to our kitchen and an extra space. We tried to make it cozy and a place where we could live in it everyday. We still need to add chairs in the living room but overall done with this space

We have an interesting and challenging shape to our room. It is an L-shaped living room-dining room with lots of wall space, asymmetrical in every way, and the back wall is all windows. My husband and I have recently painted and added curtians, and are trying to figure out how to create more storage space and display areas for holiday decorations and folk art from our trips. We bought a new tv stand and coffee table - which we love. One idea is to add similar bookcases on either side of the fireplace but don't want to overwhelm the space with too much wood or sameness. Another challenge for both of us is to decorate without being cluttered, so now we are kind of immobilized about what to do next. Any suggustions are greatly welcome! Thank you.

A living room dining room combo, we was a plae yellow when we bought it with no window coverings or lights, so we repainted the room a tawny color and accented with a coffee color paint. Both big walls of each side of the room have thick stripes painted with the tawny and coffe color. we painted the ceiling in the dining room coffee. we have a beautiful french door in the living area and still wanted to be able to use this door if we wanted. We used to seperate rods for the curtains so it just framed the door. We accented with dark brown, carmel, golds, burgandy and greens through out the room.
