Wanted to break up massive 'green grass' yard with a focal point. Added concrete slab which I hope to finish with a decorative concrete stain once the 'dust' settles, water feature, columns (lights to be added and brick planters. Feedback accepted.

The Topsy Turvy tomato planters was our answer to having fresh homegrown tomatoes without needing a garden area tilled. Even though we have plenty of room to have a garden area I didn't have anyone to till for me this time so this worked out great. We put two tomato plant starts into each one. We have CHEROKEE PURPLE Heirloom, BONNY BEST Heirloom, BRADLEY Heirloom & some yellow cherry tomatoes planted. The Topsy Turvy planters can be used for other plants as well according to the instructions. They can be reused year after year.
I realize that this is not for everyone but for me it has worked out fabulous. In fact, next year I plan to add even more of the Topsy Turvy planters!
On Oct 3, 2009 Cooler weather is setting in so I removed the plants & stored the Topsy Turvy planters until next Spring.

My garden of 06. There are pots w different flowers in them. Some w a mixture. You may think 1 is prettier than another. Others may feel the oposite is true. If they were your BFs and in your care while they were away would you not nurture them all with care? When they came home they'd see the kindness you bestowed upon their garden. Please think of this when commenting on other's homes. Remember there's a real human attached to these pictures.

My gardening style is quite relaxed. I have objects of all sorts and sizes in my garden. Some are meant for the garden and some have been repurposed. Tasteful placement of various and interesting objects is an important element in my gardens. Objects can be used as focal points or as semi-hidden surprises as you stroll around your yard.
The focus for this room is obviously the pool table. I wanted something very dramatic and stylish rather than just a traditional masculine room. My office is also in the room, so I wanted to feel comfortable. I used the bookshelves for lots of storage in the black leather boxes. The low shelves were free from a pre-school. A few coats of black spray paint and some puck lights made them elegant. The ferns in the tall copper planters (which are really trash cans from a big box store remind me of the 1920's. The picture of a 1920's bar scene fit nicely against the dark gray metalic wall paint. The accent color of plum started with 2 vintage velvet pillows I have had for 20 years (and never had the right room for them. Got very lucky to find the matching chair which I talked down the price by half since, really, how many people want a plum velvet accent chair? the shelves are bit busy but I like to surround myself with family pictures and my books. The large mirror with it's silver accent rondolettes ties all the other elements together and helps to keep the room from being too dark. I love the metallic paint from Ralph Lauren. It was selected to match the curtains and create the mood for the room.

This is one of my first bentwood projects. I put planters along side both ends of arbor and lined the planters with old tarps then plywood last bentwood sticks. The two benchs are great place to look at nature or to send small childern with ice cream cones.

We hauled this 20 yr old gazebo in the rain. It sat through a winter. Then gradually built a new base "box" of ext. plywood, for $10, got a new recycled glass door. The deck is all recycled redwood, has it's own foundation. We are not done here! Planter boxes are new 4x4 cedar from H Depot. Awning is recycled and keeps the deck 10 deg cooler. Interior fini in 2011!

These photos are of my small backyard in the city. I love my neighbors but . . . like my backyard privacy, so wanting my garden to hide their property.
