A Taste of Tuscany..i...

These are photos of the main living area(s of my home. The space is definitely Tuscan inspired, but like all of my designs I try to balance the space with tasteful, quality furnishing and accessories that fit the space appropriately, instead of overcrowding the space with every Tuscan thing I could find. Some of the pieces were custom made, but most were store bought.
The foyer mirror was originally a different color, so in order to make it fit I painted it with gold and oil rubbed bronze spray paint and coated it with a flat varnish to finish it off. I usually have a real palm in the foyer, but it is the middle of winter and I can't find anywhere! My last one had a centipede nest in the root of the plant so needless to say it couldn't stay in the house! It took me a week to figure out where those things were coming from!
I recently updated flooring upstairs as well as the railing on the steps which used to be white wooden spindles. In order to replace the railing I had to also replace the entire staircase! So to save a little bit of money I did the staining myself (what a pain!. I hope you guys enjoy the space!

We completely renovated this little farm house this year and just moved in around Thanksgiving. I had to decorate for Christmas in a hurry. This house used to belong to my husband grandparents. It was a labor of love but I am loving living out here in the country for the first time.

This is our dining room. It has plantation shutters and hardwood floors. We are thinking of going from the blue to a dark red and then from white trim to an antique white oil paint. We are also swapping the table for a dark plantation style table.

This is my kitchen and dining room. I am not totally done tweeking it yet. We had plantation shutters installed and I am having a hard time deciding if I want the fussiness of drapes up to soften the space--especially the squared off look of the smaller window. Any ideas? I want to keep a more modern clean look without being too sterile.

Cramped & Crying

Small (11' x 13' TV room, sitting room, den - not sure what to call it. A lot of light due to french doors and 3 windows. French doors have 2" wooden blinds while the windows have plantation shutters. This is the room where my husband and I sit, watch TV, read, etc. My furniture won't fit! I need ideas as to how to arrange current furniture or suggestions for different furnishings. Must be comfortable and grandchildren safe.

This is my formal dining room. It is very modern. It includes hardwood flooring and Italian furniture imported from Italy. The grandfather clock and curio cabinet were handmade in the Black Forest in Germany, and the china cabinet is a Howard Miller.

This is the most depressing room! The paint seems to absorb all of the light - the fireplace is blah - the furniture is flea market - the tv and cabinet are a monstrosity - the granite tile kitchen cabinets are cheesy - the carpet has to go (wood floors??? - BUT- I do love my plantation shutters and ceramic tile floors in the kitchen area. Any color. materials or layout ideas?
