  • Way Past Due, We love our 50's rustic ranch. And we love to cook. But we can't do much with the kitchen. It's too small, there are too few cabinets and too little counter space. I imaging knocking out the wall between the kitchen and dining room. Or I could take out the table and bench and move the fridge to the grass cloth wall and add a wall of cabinets there. (Note: this would require moving a door a few feet to where the fridge is now)., Kitchens Design

  • No Clue What to Do!, This is my ugly 1950's kitchen. The space is large, but very inefficient. The washer and dryer are out in the open (no where else in the house for them), and the dishwasher is a portable type that doubles as a movable island. I need ideas!, Kitchens Design

  • 60 year-old pine cabinets, I am refinishing the kitchen cabinets. First pic is after and before over the fridge, stove and microwave. Second is after and before over bar, and the third is after above aforementioned appliances.
These are stripped only. Does anyone think I need to sand? I plan to finish with a clear poly finish.
Any advice appreciated!!!!, Kitchens Design

  • Naughty Knotty Pine, This is one room with the kitchen and family room. The entire thing is knotty pine. There is linoleum on the floors that we highly suspect has hardwood underneath as the rest of the house is hardwood and at one time had carpet on over it. There is a pass through from the kitchen to the family room, but you have bend over to look through. The house was built in the 1950's and has not been updated. My husband really likes the knotty pine, I am not a fan., Kitchens Design

  • Kitchen Facelift Makes a Big Difference, Our kitchen had been partially renovated when we bought the house---that is the appliances had been replaced and the counters were new mahogany blue eyes granite--- but the cabinets were still pickled pine. We kept the cabinets boxes themselves and had new wooden doors made and lacquered a creamy white. The wood floor was refinished a fruitwood color to better matche the adjacent living area. Beaded board on the breakfast bar and bookshelf and new corbels finished out the job. , Kitchens Design
