  • Inexpensive (But time-consuming) Kitchen Re-Do, Our kitchen remodel started in the Fall of 2006. It has been a very long process. We learned how to DIY just about everything. We hired out nothing. After appliances, furniture, and building materials and decorations- we have about $4000 invested.

Thank you to Mom for sewing the curtains- they finish the project.

Thank You Uncle Micheal for doing the backsplash. It took him a very long time- and he did an awsome job!, Kitchens Design

  • Contemporary On The Way - Not Quite There, I am in the process of redoing this room I need a large rug not sure about the color. The room is very large 19' x 22' I can't decide about the chair does it work or not? I'm leaning towards changing it. The hardwood is very light and all the wood pieces are black. I need to put art in the frames and trim and paint the new door we just installed behind the sofa. Any suggestions are welcome. Sorry about all the pictures but I couldn't fit the whole room in just a couple., Living Rooms Design

  • rustic, country, primitive, We have a beautiful older home. And we like the older antiquie look. But sometimes I'm not so sure about the fireplace if I like it or not that is. My husband doesn't really like the wood floors they are original to the house and the only thing seperating the main living space from the basement so when you're in the basement you can hear everything upstairs and vice versa. But otherwise I'm happy with the wall color we picked it ourselves after tearing down wallpaper uhg that was a job. , Living Rooms Design

  • My tiny apartment living room, This is a small apartment living room. I do not intend on painting the walls, as I am awful at choosing color, and the carpet is going to stay. But I need furniture arrangement ideas. I was thinking about putting chairs by the window as there is an excellent view, but I'm not sure it will look right. Also, I'm debating on getting a real sofa. I lived in a studio apartment for the last 7 years, so I am not used to having a regular living space.... yikes! BTW, the curtains are a bit funky, but I wanted to be playful..., Living Rooms Design

  • Fireplace wall of Indiana limestone needs help!, Just moved into a 1959 ranch home with an Indiana limestone fireplace on the south wall. Love the stone (suits my arts and crafts style) but it is presenting decorating challenges as is the 125" picture window on the west wall. A long narrow room, I have so many constraints! The furniture (deep green) is new so it determines color. And we want a soft, quiet room for reading and conversation - notice, there is no TV!!!!! What color do I paint the fireplace wall? (White makes the stone look dirty - I need a dark color, but what?) How do I coordinate with existing furniture? Should curtains match the fireplace wall or be neutral? There is a 9" mantel in the center and 5" ledges on the two sides of the fireplace - how do I decorate or hang pictures with this pyramid shaped stone wall? HELP!, Living Rooms Design

  • Lighter and Brighter for 2011, This is a 1978 rambler style house. It has a small living room and we decided to give it a face lift. It originally had Faux wood beams that gave it a trailer house feel running across the ceiling and a make shift ceiling fan that had to be plugged into a wall socket that had a cord running inside the beams. Also there was accent lighting running the length of both walls, they had 20, 60 watt bulb sockets on each side! Hope you enjoy the transition to what the space is today. We are still toying with the idea of whether to replace the carpet with different carpet or wood or laminate flooring? Any ideas?? Thanks for looking!, Living Rooms Design

  • A living room with only the bare essentials ... makes for a very sad little space., I have no style, that much is apparent. I have all these ideas in my head of how I would love to have my living room look, but without the money to do it, my poor living room is just a place to sit and that is it. I have no idea what kind of paint colors or techniquest to use, what type of window coverings to put on the picture window and as for the furniture, it is a yardsale find that could use a good slipcover! Any advice on any of the above would be much appreciated! I want a place for my family to hang out together, not just pass through on the way to another room with more personality!, Living Rooms Design

  • Formal Dining - was 3rd bedroom/den (flex space), This space is very exciting - just to the left of the entryway and has a walk in closet, double doors and a wet bar! Crazy bedroom with the giant window right out front but a very nice den or - in my case - a great formal dining space that I can also use for any small "business" meetings I might want to hold in my home. As it shapes up I'll post new pic and would be very interetsed in any new ideas that come up! Color scheme (paint, accessories, etc) will be bronze, ivory, taupe & aqua). Of course, as I can afford to I'll be remodeling the wet bar (anyone have experience with some of the new alternatives to granite for couters - I'm sort of "over" granite!), and putting in a wall-mounted flat sreen TV for viewing business presentations. The wall art will be replaced with something more updated. The buffet will also be replaced with something more substantial and appropriate. The walk-in closet becomes a small office space for a home network hub, wireless printer, etc. All ideas, suggestions & comments welcome and thanks so much!!!, Dining Rooms Design
