  • Parquet Wood Ceiling-made from old pallets!, We turned our spare bedroom into a study and home office and topped it off with this cool, handcrafted, "parquet" wood ceiling - made from old pallets! Pallets are made from oak, mahogany, sweet gum, poplar and other hardwoods. We cut, planed, sanded, and varnished the useable pieces, then mounted them on 1/4" furniture grade plywood and trimmed them out with beaded molding. At the end we ran out of wood so we finished the area by the windows with mirrored tiles to add to the light in the room., Bedrooms Design

  • Serenty Bench, This is my private corner of the yard, for reading a book with a glass of wine on a warm summers day. It all began with a pile of pallets and a dream. Everything I used was either free or already on hand. And when I use up my stash of drift wood, it is time to spend the day on the water, collecting more and getting a tan in the process. :-), Yards Design

  • Reused, I was tired of my old room and decided to spruce it up with some cheap and easy changes. I "acquired" around 100 pallets from the surrounding home improvement stores. I then stripped, powerwashed, and sanded all of the useable pieces. I used the best, most solid pallets as a bed platform and then used a stagering pattern for the stripped pallet wood as a feature wall/headboard. Everything in the room is organic, reused, or some sort of renewable resource. The floor is stained concrete with a jute area rug., Bedrooms Design

  • Our Backyard, My husband tire down our old deck and built a new one on the back of our home. He dug up the back yard so we could lay sod and have a "usable" backyard. The before was bad grass and weeds. We have laid 6 pallets of sod and 200+ stone decorative blocks. We still have to lay 4 more pallets, spread mulch and decorate with plants. But, it is coming along! I need help on where plants should go so that I do not go overboard or choice the wrong plant for that particular area..., Yards Design

  • 600 dollar throw away house II, I bought this house for $600 dollars at a tax sale auction and set out to remodel and redo it with a very small amount of money! It has been redone with free, recycled, repurposed items with paint being the only major expense! I searched all over town and hit curb piles, had friends, neighbors and whoever I could talk into keeping a look out.. watch for discarded items. Soon, people began to bring me things they thought might look good in my house! No area was free from scrounging, including the city compost pile where people dumped amazing treasures!, Kitchens Design

  • Keeping him busy, This room was very plain when we moved in 3 years ago. My husband get's bored so I try and think of projects for him. He installed the crown molding first then I designed the mantel and he built it for me. He added the stone around it and we dug through pallets of rock to find the hearth stones. I helped as much as he'd let me! PS. He also did the floor. Do you think it needs an area rug?, Living Rooms Design

  • Almost there, 5 year project. My husband built a garden shed from recycled doors, windows, stone and slate.
Now we are down to the actual carden site which is about 70x30. Asyou can see we planted red plums to create a border, we have about 10 pallets of stone for walls.
Question: how do we complete this area. We were thinking a water fountain or small pond. Do we mound dirt or add large rocks so the landscaping does noy look so flat. We are planning on having a vegetable garden but most of it will be dee resistant plants. Any suggestions on the plants.
Thank you,
Janet, Gardens Design
