  • Painted Kitchen Cabinets, Here are a few photos of my "design on a dime" kitchen makeover. It's a work in progress. I hated my builder-grade, orange oak cabinets from the 1990s, so I painted over them, and added some Ikea handles. I plan to change the backsplash to something more modern soon, and tweak things here and there. It would be nice to have some under-cabinet lighting. This entire "reno" cost a few hundred dollars. It's definitely worth it if you want to give your oak kitchen an easy update., Kitchens Design

  • DIY White Painted Kitchen Cabinets Makeover, After many months of research and then trial and error, we perfect the best method for us to complete our DIY painted white kitchen renovation. Our room was lacking in natural light, but it is now a light and bright space! However, it was a long road to get there- we meticulously filled in all of the grain on the cabinets, primed, and used a paint sprayer to achieve a professional high-end cabinetry look! We are so pleased with the results, and we are excited to share our method! Please visit the Everyday Enchanting blog for the complete tutorial!, Kitchens Design

  • Dan Vs. Woman: Kitchen Edition, Instead of complaining about how unhappy I was with the look of my kitchen, and even more disappointed with my budget of $400. I was able to save ALOT of money by repurposing items from storage and other rooms.

I used Rustoleum Liquid Laminate paint to resurface my faux- marble look. It comes in 16 different colors.

I had really good wood cabinets but it was too dark in my kitchen because there was only window and not a lot of light. I really wanted to brighten up the kitchen by painting the cabinets white.

Behr has this great paint and primer in one. After sanding the cabinets it really saved a lot of time.

I used the Simple Matte Tile Solution and the Simple Grout (which was pre mixed and mess free) I used 1/4 inch tile spacers and GOT BUSY!

I changed the light fixtures and replaced them with silver pendant lights from ikea.

In the end we spent $414. I have to say that my kitchen is now my new favorite room in the house. If you dont like your kitchen you have the power and the resources to change it!

  • Kitchen Redo- first home!, We just bought our very first home a month ago! It is a 1931 cottage style 1.5 story house, relatively small... but for two 22 year olds - I'd say it's perfect. Due to the size of the house, we are doing all we can to make it feel bigger. We painted the kitchen, took off some doors and put up wallpaper. We had almost no budget - so what you see here was done on about $120.00 - $140.00 in materials., Kitchens Design

  • Presto Chango French Provincial to Pottery Barn, This space started life as an all wood...paneling, cabinets, doors...all dark wood...space. It had 1970s stylish harvest gold appliance..well stove and refrigerator..those were all the appliances there were in this charming cozy room..I painted all cabinets white, playing up the molding on the cabinets, changed pulls to silver, changed out appliances to black to provide some contrast and color, floor went to white vinyl for light. Ikea came to the rescue with some fresh stainless steel shelves and accessories to modern things up. I moved the refrig to the opposite side of the room and slipped in a butcher block island cabinet with a drop leaf for some additional counter space when needed, Painted the depressing paneling Lemon Ice color from Benjamin Moore. I loved this kitchen until it was destroyed in a flood.

  • I'm Dreaming of a White Kitchen..., Whenever I would tear kitchen pictures out of a magazine the cabinets would be white. We redid this kitchen for a fraction of what it could have cost to get my dream kitchen. The cabinets are oak and were professionally painted and glazed..for 1/5 the cost of replacing them. All appliances replaced added the backsplash and the fabric for the window treatments topped off my new kitchen...literally! The last picture is the "before"., Kitchens Design

  • Help With Stark, White Painted Cabinets--what can I do to soften them and repair poor paint job?, This is was a foreclosure. Cabinets are in good shape, however the paint job is showing wear. What are my options to improve these cabinets? I know I could spent $30,000 and replace, but they are in good shape. I would also like to soften the color. The stark white seems to fight with the black counters and tan backsplash. I THINK I would like a less stark white (almond?) with darker colored corners--is that called a glaze? I'm pretty handy with a paint brush, but I need good instructions.

Should I remove the paint down to the wood?
(If so, how? what tools would I need? How long does this take?)

What color would you paint? Glaze? Stain?

Can I paint or stain or glaze over these cabinets?
(If so, what color? tools? where do i look for good instructions?)

Should I ditch the cabinet doors and buy new? (I don't want to go to this expense, but if there is too much labor involved with rehabbing the doors, it makes sense to buy new.) If I do this, how do I fix the backs and sides of the cabinets?

THANK YOU for you ideas!, Kitchens Design

  • From Dark to Light - Kitchen , This kitchen slowly evolved from a dark, banged up mess to updated, but still too dark and finally light and much brighter cleaner feel. The before pictures are mid-way. We do not have any before pictures of the kitchen when it was still very banged up with kitchen carpet on the floors and cabinet doors that had seen much better days.
