  • Painted Kitchen Cabinets, Here are a few photos of my "design on a dime" kitchen makeover. It's a work in progress. I hated my builder-grade, orange oak cabinets from the 1990s, so I painted over them, and added some Ikea handles. I plan to change the backsplash to something more modern soon, and tweak things here and there. It would be nice to have some under-cabinet lighting. This entire "reno" cost a few hundred dollars. It's definitely worth it if you want to give your oak kitchen an easy update., Kitchens Design

  • I'm Dreaming of a White Kitchen..., Whenever I would tear kitchen pictures out of a magazine the cabinets would be white. We redid this kitchen for a fraction of what it could have cost to get my dream kitchen. The cabinets are oak and were professionally painted and glazed..for 1/5 the cost of replacing them. All appliances replaced added the backsplash and the fabric for the window treatments topped off my new kitchen...literally! The last picture is the "before"., Kitchens Design

  • Buhbye Sea of Oakiness :), Our 14 year old worn and yellowed but structurally sound oak cabinets got a facelift. The space feels larger and much, much brighter! We used rustoleum kitchen transformations in linen, unglazed and espresso, glazed. The project took us 8 weeks. Still have floor to do but so happy the cabinets are done!, Kitchens Design

  • Kitchen Re-do / Painted and Glazed Cabinets, While looking at spaces, I came across alletasdesign, who recently painted and glazed her cabinets. I've been wanting to do this for a couple of years and just didn't have the guts until I saw hers. My cabinets are nice oak cabinets but they are 20 years old and I can't afford a new kitchen so I decided toI paint my cabinets too. I put in new formica countertops (can't afford others) and installed a travertine backsplash. The backsplash didn't come back to it's natural color which is a little disappointing but I'll have to live with it. I also painted my barstools because the oak color just didn't match. They are a little light in the picture because of the flash. I added a few minor updates to the cabinets, added some posts to the island, purchased hardware on the internet, purchased a new cooktop and voila, I have a new kitchen for a fraction of the cost., Kitchens Design

  • From Dark to Light - Kitchen , This kitchen slowly evolved from a dark, banged up mess to updated, but still too dark and finally light and much brighter cleaner feel. The before pictures are mid-way. We do not have any before pictures of the kitchen when it was still very banged up with kitchen carpet on the floors and cabinet doors that had seen much better days.

  • "Optimista" Kitchen Makeover, Very small budget. We did almost all the work ourselves, including design and building the barstool, table/chairs and bench. We painted existing cabinets and added new cabinets and quartz countertops (no granite!! with wine rack for extra space and storage. It's part of an overall total house remodel, so we maintained the exposed, stained concrete floors throughout (very easy to clean. Cheerful, Earthtone colors with accent match the rest of the house. We just wanted it to look less "Kitcheny".

  • My Super Frugal Industrial Farmhouse Kitchen, I wanted a big farmhouse kitchen on a little budget. I saved by using open shelving on beadboard paneling instead of upper cabinets low cost industrial lighting on the ceiling plain white appliances #2 oak flooring inexpensive formica counter tops and lots of creativity. I added some yard sale finds including a big old glass door hutch and a center island that was an old hardware store counter. I got every thing I wanted and was able to do the whole kitchen for under $10K. My specialty is doing re-designs on tiny budgets. To see more check out my blog

  • Help! We HATE our cabinets & don't know where to start - UPDATED..updates have finally began!, As some of you may recall, we purchased our house last summer & I posed original photos of our kitchen last fall because we hated our yellow oak cabinets, outdated floor, and well, pretty much everything in the kitchen except for the good lay-out. Oh yeah, and we also had this very odd cut-out where our fridge was so we finally came up with a solution for that. So, here you go...these are our updates so far & obviously there is still work to be done but let me know what you think so far. Still need new counters, stainless steel appliances, new lighting, pantry door, trim, and some barstools and dining furniture. , Kitchens Design
