This kitchen slowly evolved from a dark, banged up mess to updated, but still too dark and finally light and much brighter cleaner feel. The before pictures are mid-way. We do not have any before pictures of the kitchen when it was still very banged up with kitchen carpet on the floors and cabinet doors that had seen much better days.

Here are a few photos of my "design on a dime" kitchen makeover. It's a work in progress. I hated my builder-grade, orange oak cabinets from the 1990s, so I painted over them, and added some Ikea handles. I plan to change the backsplash to something more modern soon, and tweak things here and there. It would be nice to have some under-cabinet lighting. This entire "reno" cost a few hundred dollars. It's definitely worth it if you want to give your oak kitchen an easy update.

Our 14 year old worn and yellowed but structurally sound oak cabinets got a facelift. The space feels larger and much, much brighter! We used rustoleum kitchen transformations in linen, unglazed and espresso, glazed. The project took us 8 weeks. Still have floor to do but so happy the cabinets are done!

I designed the custom island to fit the bay windows. I only wish we could change the small postage stamp window in the space. Cabinet update needed as well! New appliances thanks to a win in Vegas!

I took some advice from RMS posters and added hardware to the painted cabinets. I also recovered the vanity stool and placed a more significant arrangement near the tub. Hope you like the improvements!:

This is our kitchen! It had the original oak cabinets and we could not afford to replace them, so we spent $100 on paint, glaze and hardware to re-do them!

I painted my oak kitchen cabinets off white and installed granite countertops and did a backsplash. I can't get used to the backsplash. It hasn't been grouted yet. Can anybody tell me if they think all hope is lost of what I should do here....?! Thanks for the ideas in advance!

started out with 12 sq ft of cheap laminate countertop with double sink in the middle, finished with over 30 sq ft of granite tile countertop with over twice as much cabinet space

It took about 4 months to complete my kitchen. I paint all the oak cabinets myself and had new Ivory Sukuri granite countertops installed. I wanted something different so I picked a grayish cabinet paint color by Benjamin Moore -1550 - Cumulus Cloud. My husband installed the backsplash and new appliances. Overall, we LOVE our new kitchen!

Whenever I would tear kitchen pictures out of a magazine the cabinets would be white. We redid this kitchen for a fraction of what it could have cost to get my dream kitchen. The cabinets are oak and were professionally painted and glazed..for 1/5 the cost of replacing them. All appliances replaced added the backsplash and the fabric for the window treatments topped off my new kitchen...literally! The last picture is the "before".

While looking at spaces, I came across alletasdesign, who recently painted and glazed her cabinets. I've been wanting to do this for a couple of years and just didn't have the guts until I saw hers. My cabinets are nice oak cabinets but they are 20 years old and I can't afford a new kitchen so I decided toI paint my cabinets too. I put in new formica countertops (can't afford others and installed a travertine backsplash. The backsplash didn't come back to it's natural color which is a little disappointing but I'll have to live with it. I also painted my barstools because the oak color just didn't match. They are a little light in the picture because of the flash. I added a few minor updates to the cabinets, added some posts to the island, purchased hardware on the internet, purchased a new cooktop and voila, I have a new kitchen for a fraction of the cost.

I painted my oak kitchen cabinets with fresh white paint, added a tile back splash, granite counter tops and a warm wall color. My kitchen cabinets look fresh and new!

Today i changed a few things in my kitchen. I added the word "revised" to the things i changed. I hope everyone takes a look cause i do value the imput. We repainted the inside of our home last week. This is still a work in progress. I am looking to find a few accent things with red tones to add some color and accesorize. Yellow was my least favorite color but i love it now. I wanted a cheery kitchen.
