Small living room size 16x21. We spend lots of time in our living/family room. We need help making it more welcoming and cozy. The original dark wood trim throughout the house makes it difficult to find that really fits right.

Here's my living room in my old house. It has dark wood walls (not panels with a slight orange tint. I bought an off-white couch to try to brighten it up. I need ideas to brighten it up and ideas for window treatments. Also, the trim/mantel/walls/floor need so coordination. I don't want to make it look like a lodge. Also, I can't stand brick so I need ideas for the fireplace. I forgot to add two things: the area rug has been temporary removed do to a sick cat. It's back now so I'll add the pic. The window treatment need to be room darkening because it's an awesome room for movies. And the room is huge, which you can probably tell by how tiny the sectional looks in it.

I have a Global Eclectic/Asian style and the home we purchased has very traditional fixtures and features. They are gorgeous and expensive so I do not want to replace them so I am attempting to make my style work with them on a budget. The Dining area opens to the LR and kitchen so it is important that these 3 rooms blend. I would love the paint the walls in the kitchen and Dining area a green color except the accent wall (I have Valspar Garden Gate picked out. The LR would be painted the same or similar color as the accent wall but it will be next summer before I can have roooms painted. Whatever fabric I chose for the Dining area needs to work with the Living room and kitchen. I considered just a plain color like the tablecloth (btw it is temporary...looking for something better. Would love to find something in a leaf, twig, tree, print. What do you think valances? Drapes? Nothing?

A peaceful place to surf the net or do some or write that term paper. The original artwork blue picture ties into other blue in the room contributing further to the much needed tranquility of every student. (Notice the latte' besides the laptop a very important part of college life lol

Dark chocolate wall which ties the Dining area and Living Rm together. The Fireplace has simple Birch Wood squares. The modern sofa is a bold statement and is accented w/ brown leather chairs & accent chair. Patio doors in the Dining Room have floor to ceiling fabric panels that slide on a rail system.

This room was added to our house in the '90s and it was originally intended to be used as a game room we think. It originally sold us on this house but now it is so dark and depressing it's like a dungeon!! There's no insulation so its hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The wood is claustrophobic and we just want to re-do the entire room!

This is the formal living room. I have chosen soothing, earth tones to complement the richness of the dark wood and marble tops. To break the monotony, a little bit of red was introduced as an accent color. I painted an Abstract to go over the console table. My client loved the way it turned out, with lots of movement and vibrant colors.

This is our new place and it is begging for some personalization - we need advise. The trim is real oak and the floors are bamboo. I don't plan to change the floors at all. The fireplace is granite as is the foyer. The oak is natural and I was wondering if we should paint it, perhaps put in a different banister and then have the living area painted in taupe with white trim - along with a really nice staircase banister. The top banister is bordering a loft area - what should we put up there? What kind of furniture would you use to furnish this space? Specifics - please. The leather couch, chair, ottoman and table were just purchased but we have another family room downstairs that we could use it in - what type of furniture and how do you break up this space? We need advise! Pictures would be great!

Living room started out as a blank slate - beige walls, stained beige carpet, outdated fixtures and furniture. Now it has warm wood floors, tawny beige walls with green accent wall and new trasitional furniture. The new transitional sectional and wonderful area rug were the inpsiration for everything else in the space.

As this space is still in progress we enjoy taking our time to find unique accessories and furniture customized to fit our needs. Even though we have a small living area we never compromise in our choices of pieces. If we like something we customize it if necessary therefore making it our own. Nothing is impossible! Furniture & accessories purchased at Robb & Stucky Interiors. Next project: Window Treatments & paint!
