  • Now I can breath in my kitchen, The old kitchen in the 1962 rambler was so small I had to open the oven door from the side. There was only about 27" between the two small countertops and everytime I went into the kitchen I got claustophic. We knocked down all the walls between the kitchen, dining room and family room and now we have a bright open space that can handle lots of family and friends. Best of all my husband and I did the whole remodel ourselves. , Kitchens Design

  • HELP! OPEN MODERN GREAT ROOM, LIVING AREA WITH HIGH CEILINGS, This is our new place and it is begging for some personalization - we need advise. The trim is real oak and the floors are bamboo. I don't plan to change the floors at all. The fireplace is granite as is the foyer. The oak is natural and I was wondering if we should paint it, perhaps put in a different banister and then have the living area painted in taupe with white trim - along with a really nice staircase banister. The top banister is bordering a loft area - what should we put up there? What kind of furniture would you use to furnish this space? Specifics - please. The leather couch, chair, ottoman and table were just purchased but we have another family room downstairs that we could use it in - what type of furniture and how do you break up this space? We need advise! Pictures would be great! , Living Rooms Design

  • Spa like on a small budget, from old and plain for 1,600, Spa like on a small budget, from old and plain. My son and daughter in law recently bought a new home. They asked me to redo their bathroom. They wanted shades of brown and that is what they got. It was a good size bathroom but it had a lot of wasted space. I gutted the room and while doing so I found an open space beside the tub in which I added a wonderful built in storage space. The tub was taken out and replaced with a shower. The counter site was moved to the side wall and doubled in size. The cabinets have tilt outs and the silent close feature. The cabinet on the right has a laundry shoot to the laundry room below. The cabinets and granite counter top were a wonderful find for their budget. They could have easily spent most of their budget on just the cabinet and counter top. The counter top is St. Cecilia with a beautiful edge and under mount sink. Everything in the bathroom is new and it was all done for $ 1,600.00. I love shopping for bargains. It really pays to shop around when doing a remodel.

  • Beachy Modern Living Room , I've been moving things around here quite a bit lately:) I finally found the perfect spot for our tiki-hut - it as a little bit too big for the entrance and wasn't very functional there. We have a lot of people over, so it's perfect to keep the glass water container on it all the time now. We also got new ceiling fans - it's very hot here in Hawaii, and I wanted the fans to look more tropical so I got the woven leaf look. We added more seating and changed a few more things around:), Living Rooms Design

  • Loft with big open floor plan, My loft apartment has soaring 20 foot ceilings, large windows, and an open floor plan where the living, dining, and kitchen seamlessly flow together. The problem is that when you open the door, it looks good, but when you walk in, you realize it's very empty and uninspired. , Living Rooms Design

  • Open Great Room , I like to call this our European Lake Lodge. This is the great room which opens to the kitchen and breakfast room and the center of the home. We are selling our home and would appreciate any suggestions to make it more appealing. Our home is six years old and I personally designed it with an architect friend. Don't have a lot of extra cash for new furnishings, so just made the most of what we have. We live in the south (not too far from New Orleans) where there is a lot of french influence, including stained concrete floors. I wanted to try them out but am considering changing to wide plank hardwoods. What do you think? Please give me feedback! Thanks!:)
