We adopted a beautiful little girl out of the foster care system. She was the daughter of a family member so we had no warning. This room was originally my sewing room and I had just paint and wallpapered the room so I decided to make it work. My little girl is now 21/2 and she loves to play in her non-traditional bedroom that her mommy worked hard to create especially for her.

Hopefully this is a room our son can grow into and use for many years. Feel free to offer suggestions as long as they're not labor-intensive (I'm not painting stripes or installing a chair rail! Even though it crowds the nursery we must use the queen-sized bed as we have no storage space. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I had great input from viewers when I first posted this room (way too blue nursery....help? I painted the crib wall "fig cookie" brown and hung some wall hangings with his name. Also painted a tree inspired by a RMS members monkey tree. Also added birdies at the top that were RMS inspired. Thanks for all your help. Oh yeah I temporarily hung the chocolate brown drapes for contrast. I still need to get a rod for them.

We wanted a Modern Boy nursery that looked design quality without the high designer cost.....our total cost including all supplies and furniture was under $800! The ceiling pieces were cut from 5/8" plywood and painted to match the block wall. We gave the look of crown molding by taping and painting to create this illusion. We were inspired by another design we found and improved upon it to fit our own style and taste. We used no VOC paint throughout and organic bedding.

We are expecting our 3rd son and really tried to reuse and recycle and spend as little as possible. We painted with leftover paint and a can of 5 buck "mistint" paint. We reused all the furniture for our other two and dug out some frames and art work that weren't in use- we plan on putting his intials in the frames above his crib once we decide on a name. Topped off with window hardware and some light diffusing sheers and we have a little nest for our baby boy for about 30 dollars

This room went from being a bonus room that my husband used to do yoga and guitar jamming in to being our daughter's bedroom! The best part about this room is that it probably cost less than $200 for everything you see here. The crib was a hand-me-down the rest from garage sales: wicker table $3 all baby bedding $6 bookcase $5 etc.

We ended up having a boy so the pink things have since been replaced with blue things. I bought the crib for 60 dollars and made most of the bedding and curtains.

This nursery was done on a small budget and with a giraffe theme. It was very gender neutral so we added the sports pictures to the wall to make it more suiting for our little boy. We went with green chocolate brown with giraffe print curtains.

I designed and painted this nursery myself which was inspired by my daughter's crib bedding. We didn't have a lot of money to spend on furniture and accessories so I made the walls fun and colorful. We'll just paint over it when our daughter outgrows the 'blocks' theme.

The total cost of our nursery was less than $1,000!! I wanted to use primary colors, because they stimulate intellectual development more than any other colors. I grew up on the gulf coast and thought that a few nautical touches would give Brodie a taste of the coast!

You can be so creative with paint, wall decals, painted furniture and a little creativity! We were on a tight budget and most everything was reused, repainted, or made from scratch. I love that this room could be for either a boy or a girl, and that my little girl can grow with the room (as its not too baby-ish.

We created a nursery on a tight budget by doing almost everything ourselves. We also had to keep the walls a neutral color because we are selling our home. We agreed upon a jungle theme, but didn't want to use any pre-made store bought items. I did the paintings based on inspiration from my favorite childhood books, sewed the window treatments, picture frames and letter tiles myself. I also made the matching chandelier shades and used a $50 chandelier from Lowe's.com. The glider is the Patoka glider by Best Chairs.

Our mission was to create a nursery on a budget, and I think we succeeded in that area! Thanks to Craigslist and TJ Maxx, we purchased everything for less than $700! Our favorites are the Drexel dressers ($150 each, Craigslist and down filled rocking/swivel chair from Layla Grace (normally $1300ish, also scored on Craigslist for $150. We lucked out and found matching window panels at Old Time Pottery for $12 (total, and the bedding/lamp came from TJ Maxx. The saying on the wall was a clearance purchase when Linens and Things went out of business ($8! We are still working on getting art on the walls, etc. We were determined to keep a neutral wall color so we did not have to re-paint when he outgrows this space! Feedback is welcome, Thanks!
