  • Modernist Mother-in-Law's Apartment, My home was built in 1950 and included a detached carport with a large two-room workshop. In January of this year, I embarked on a project to build a completely self-contained apartment for myself on the existing slab of the carport/workshop and invited my daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons to move into the main house. The new apartment was immediately dubbed "The Modernist Nest" by a fellow blogger and "Grammo's Little House" by my grandsons.

It took three months to complete the construction and a couple more months to landscape, but I'm finally in and enjoying my new 676 sf nest-space very much., Other Spaces Design

  • Sunroom Addition, This is a sunroom addition built between our home and my Mother-in-Law's garage apartment. Now it is one big house. She can open her pocket doors in the morning and close in the evening. The dogs can come and go through doggie door outside or go to grandma's when they want. We still have our own spaces but can still keep an eye on each other. Works out wonderfully. Working on trying to get picture to show on web page?!!, Porches Design

  • Someday a new facade, The house was a 50's ranch with an attached garage. Too forward thinking at the time. Everyone of these houses had this garage converted to a bedroom in the 70s. The front and three sides have full thickness coke oven brick added from ground to roof. The brick is interesting but less is more. Driveway remained and an asphalt side way also need to go., Home Exterior Design

  • Contemporary Urban Apartment, My apartment has polished concrete floors and has a bit of an awkward layout because the living room and dining area form an L shape around the kitchen. The spaces lacked definition before this big update.
My apartment was flooded over the summer and thanks to renter's insurance, I was able to buy all new furniture. I wanted a contemporary and somewhat monochromatic look, but there is no direct sunlight into my place. This is my attempt at contemporary using gray and still bringing light into the space., Living Rooms Design

  • The lighting... How did you do that?, Some people have asked "How did you get the lighting under the bed?" The lighting is both inexpensive and easy to install. I secured rope lighting inside the bed frame using plastic clips that have an adhesive backing. ...costs about $10 and can be found at most hardware stores. The rope lighting is plugged into an outlet that is connected to a dimmer light switch and can adjusted by a remote control devise. Thanks for all your wonderful comments and encouraging 5-star ratings!, Bedrooms Design
