About This Space

This room has evolved over many years.
It originally had a shed style roof. We centered it adding beams and recessed lights. We replaced the windows with french door s and skim coated the walls for a smooth finish. We painted them gray with a slightly darker version on the ceiling. We stained the beams a greenish brown. On a trip to Paris in 1999 we came across our unique & amazing fireplace mantle,overmantle and matching screen and had it shipped back. A dear friend gave us the beautiful painting. We couldn't believe it when it fit the opening perfectly! We call her the lady of the house. Over the years we've found many treasures that have found their way into our Living Room like the extremely unusual brass rolling ball clock I found just this week at TJ Maxx!
As I write this, I'm so sad because as I was trying to add more photos I accidently deleted the room and all the wonderful comments, views and ratings I had received over the past few weeks.
So here is the new and hopefully improved Chinoiserie or Asian Inspired Living Room, hope you like it!

I love your eclectic style. You have a knack for putting together things that shouldnt be together but look great once they are. Bet you never were any good at the Sesame Street game "which one doesn't belong here"!!! Don't listen to all the fuddy duddies who tell you everything MUST be matching or from same genre or whatever. Don't listen!!! You have a lifetime of memories in this room. When you walk in you think of Paris, France----not the big box store in Paris Tx!!!!! Keep up the great work.

HI! It's so nice to see someone else who loves the hunt, and to accessorize with special found treasures instead of the usual generic vase with dead sticks in it and three tiered chunky candlesticks on the coffee table! I especially like the black accents in the room that remind me of black laquer pieces. I gave you 5 * and would be honored if you would look at my living room and tell me what you think.

Colors are beautiful. Ideas for consideration: Chinoisserie is fine, delicate and ladylike. The lodge style beams and wildlife carpet don't match and should be replaced with something more in keeping with the Chinoisserie style.

The focal point is stunning! Just what a focal point should be. A few of the pillows are too casual for this room, either solid black or black/brown would be better. Great example of how everything in a room doesn't have to be expensive, it's how u bring it together.

STUNNING !!!
SOPHISTICATED!!!

Like the beams, they give so much character, I also love the lightning and the new french doors, they make the room so bright and so big, what I love THE MOST is your fireplace, I dont think it is easy to find one like yours, JUST LOVELY!!!, GREAT JOB!!!
The only thing that in my opinion doesn't go with the sophisticated, elegant & stylish room is the picture above the fireplace that you call the lady of the house.
