  • Way Past Due, We love our 50's rustic ranch. And we love to cook. But we can't do much with the kitchen. It's too small, there are too few cabinets and too little counter space. I imaging knocking out the wall between the kitchen and dining room. Or I could take out the table and bench and move the fridge to the grass cloth wall and add a wall of cabinets there. (Note: this would require moving a door a few feet to where the fridge is now)., Kitchens Design

  • Too Dark Den needs Storage and Color, We live in a 100-year old farmhouse with knotty-pine wood paneling throughout the first floor. Combined with tan sofas, beige rugs, and wood furniture, the room is dark and blah. Storage is also big issue. There are not enough shelves to house our books or dvds, not to mention our exercise equipment. With the wood paneling running throughout the open floor plan downstairs, I just don't know where to begin to bring light and color into this room. Help!, Living Rooms Design

  • Family Room--HELP!!, This family room in the lower level of our new home needs help! The previous owner while well intended decorated the room in such a busy way that it is almost unbearable! I am looking to redecorate with a warmer more inviting feel to the room. I plan on replacing the countertops on the wet bar with black granite or similar countertops am removing the chair rails from the walls to reduce the wood in the room and give some of the walls clean lines. Wall colors: two tones or just single color?, Living Rooms Design

  • The creepiest bathroom ever, Knotty pine paneled 3/4 bath so old that the hot and cold water come out of separate taps on the sink. We have never used the shower, because it's an industrial-style metal stall insert that had the remnants of a mouse nest in the drain. Do they even make shower stalls this small these days? Someday, we hope to expand this space out to make it large enough to house a full-sized tub/shower. The photo was taken from the doorway - tiny huh? There is a built-in storage cabinet over the toilet that doesn't show in the photo, but it needs some molding and new hardware to polish it up. Doesn't it remind you of summer camp?

This is by far the worst room in the whole house - I don't want to give the impression that every room is like this (although the kitchen is just as old, it's in better condition)!, Bathrooms Design

  • Naughty Knotty Pine, This is one room with the kitchen and family room. The entire thing is knotty pine. There is linoleum on the floors that we highly suspect has hardwood underneath as the rest of the house is hardwood and at one time had carpet on over it. There is a pass through from the kitchen to the family room, but you have bend over to look through. The house was built in the 1950's and has not been updated. My husband really likes the knotty pine, I am not a fan., Kitchens Design

Hope to paint the trim, doors white but leave cabinets for a few years until I can afford to paint or replace them. Counters are a dark green/black marble; tried 5 different green paints. Some too light, too avocado, too grey/green. HELP me pick the right wall color (green, preferably), not too dark as kitchen is very dark. Or another wall color! I am at my wits end with the kitchen., Kitchens Design

  • Knotty Pine No-no, "Lovely" knotty pine cabinets, old-school appliances, worn laminate countertops and backsplash, green and orange textured paint that exfoliates your skin when you bump into the walls, and wall-to-wall carpet on a slightly slanted floor combine to make this a dream (nightmare) kitchen., Kitchens Design

  • Country Kitchen, Me and my husband bought our first home and it was a foreclosed double wide on almost two acres. We got it for a steal but the place was a wreck and a gutted kitchen (well gutted everything for that matter) awaited us. We did everything ourselves so it is not perfect but if you can give me any feedback on curtains and tile colors for backsplash it would be appreciated. We wanted to make the home feel country and I love apples so my kitchen is done in apple theme and I used a lighter sage green on the walls to make all the red stand out in my decorations. I have light brown diamond chipped counter tops and it really turned out good in person. Please just leave feedback and help me out;-) I'm only 22 and really needed more experienced peoples opinions...thanks , Kitchens Design
