kitchen had ceramic tile countertops and one row of tile backsplash, dark wood cabinets and a tile floor. Granite Transformations did the countertop, I did the backsplash with mosaic glass tiles, added trim and painted the cabinets and made knobs for the cabinets and drawers, and added a new wood floor.

Our screen porch is a place where we can go to enjoy the Summer Breeze. The majority of items on the porch were purchased at estate sales and flea markets or on a clearance. Then I painted and/or recovered and repurposed my purchases for enjoyment. I even painted the wording shown above. To view more, go to my blog: http://theredpaintedcottage.blogspot.com and that in turn will have a link to my etsy store where you can view some of my paintings.

A spa like feel accompanies this bathroom... from the programmable heated floor to the 72" slipper claw foot tub (comfortably fits a man over 6" tall to the river-rock shower floor. We purchased custom two-toned fixtures in oil rubbed bronze and copper finish. We wanted the vanity area to look like a piece of furniture so we made it counter top height, included spindles and ball feet to help us achieve that look. We also added a shelf into the vanity area and had the side splashes created to pull it all together. To keep the sink area uncluttered we incorporated wall mount faucets. The final touch was adding the decorative tile in the middle of the vanity to add some color and break up the granite look (same tile is in the shower area and as wall decorations above the windows. We added outlets inside the vanities to allow us to hide hairdryers, shavers, electric toothbrushes, etc.. We used a combination of molding designs from the cabinet maker to create a unique mirror frame. We used an offset pattern of 19 X 19 tiles for the floor and to break up the large floor area as well as to highlight the claw foot tub and we created a tile carpet for it to sit on. The shower is a neo-angle area surrounded by 1/2 inch thick glass and tiled in a 16 x 16 natural stone and includes a bench and a wonderful river-rock floor that soothes your feet as you shower (the shower is large enough to hold 2 adults comfortably. We also included a few hooks between the tub and shower area so that there is a place to hang towels or other items. All lights fixtures are on dimmer switches ( 3 zones - above the vanity lights, above the tub and the rest plus the exhaust fan is hidden in one of the recessed lights! The final items that pull this bathroom all together are the crown molding, the oversize wood base cove molding, the stool, the cafe shutters that allow light in but allow us to keep our privacy, the full length mirror attached to the back of the bathroom door and the his & hers re-designed California Closets. I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as we enjoy our bathroom!!

We purchased a very small but open 3 bed 2 bath duplex 5 years ago and after owning for 14 months we tackled some major updates. This is the kitchen and nook. The nook is a little bigger than pictured.

I love girly nurseries, but didn't want it to be overwhelmingly pink. The Tiffany Blue wall color with pink accents came out just as I had hoped and I had a blast putting this together for our little girl.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION-This was a modern cold cramped and cluttered kid's room shared by our 17 and 6yr old girls. We decided to redo for our youngest so it would be all her decor when the oldest moves out. Any room can look good till you actually use it. The trick is to design so it has the look you want and the storage and organization to make it still look good when you actually live in it. With a child's room this is always a special challenge!

When we found out that we were having a boy, we started designing the nursery right away. My husband built a ledge around the room for the toy train, and I started picking out bright, stimulating colors. We chose a vehicle theme with trains, construction equipment, trucks, cars, and airplanes. I purchased linens, rugs, pictures, and accessories from a variety of sources in an effort to avoid the theme overpowering the room. Our goal was to have a vibrant, engaging, entertaining, and functional space for our little one. The nursery has transitioned smoothly into a great space for a toddler. Our son loves spending time in his room. In fact, he hates traveling and often asks to go back to his room when he is away.

When I bought my house 4 years ago, I decided to take a piece of the kitchen to add another bathroom. The remaining kitchen was quite small. I just did a few upgrades in form of painting and floor tiling. There was little storage space, but instead a bulky waterheater and a big vintage Tappan stove that I thoroughly cleaned and then more admired than used. I basically prepared my food in the microvaver. A few months ago I decided on a complete kitchen remodel. Everything was torn out to the bare studs. The Tappan is now in storage. I hope you like my new cottage style kitchen.

After having two amazing older boys and my husband having a vasectomy, we were blessed and extremely surprised by a beautiful baby girl! Needless to say, I went very girly, girl but I'm hoping this will be a space she will enjoy for many years.

We did this room for my daughter when she was 13. She loved it as much at 17 as she did when she was younger. We called it her "Legally Blonde" room. UPDATE 3-23-09: My daughter's name is Kyley Brooke and her personality was as bright and bubbly as this room. She died 3 months ago on December 18, 2008, five days before her 17th birthday. As much as she loved this "space", I know that it is nothing compared to the beautiful home she now has in heaven! Thank you for the great comments. I have enjoyed reading them. ~~Melissa

This is my daughter's new room! I was so excited to decorate a little girl's room. Everything was done around the bedding, which my mom made for me. I love how it turned out!
