Here are a few photos of my "design on a dime" kitchen makeover. It's a work in progress. I hated my builder-grade, orange oak cabinets from the 1990s, so I painted over them, and added some Ikea handles. I plan to change the backsplash to something more modern soon, and tweak things here and there. It would be nice to have some under-cabinet lighting. This entire "reno" cost a few hundred dollars. It's definitely worth it if you want to give your oak kitchen an easy update.

Instead of complaining about how unhappy I was with the look of my kitchen, and even more disappointed with my budget of $400. I was able to save ALOT of money by repurposing items from storage and other rooms.
I used Rustoleum Liquid Laminate paint to resurface my faux- marble look. It comes in 16 different colors.
I had really good wood cabinets but it was too dark in my kitchen because there was only window and not a lot of light. I really wanted to brighten up the kitchen by painting the cabinets white.
Behr has this great paint and primer in one. After sanding the cabinets it really saved a lot of time.
I used the Simple Matte Tile Solution and the Simple Grout (which was pre mixed and mess free I used 1/4 inch tile spacers and GOT BUSY!
I changed the light fixtures and replaced them with silver pendant lights from ikea.
In the end we spent $414. I have to say that my kitchen is now my new favorite room in the house. If you dont like your kitchen you have the power and the resources to change it!

I repainted the cabinets, changed the backsplash, and added two barstools, and changed the hardware. I had to remove the old vinyl tile flooring, and put down a nice wood laminate. The old fridge didn't work, and I replaced it with a good used one.
The budget was $ 500.-

Gave the dated kitchen a lift by installing hardwood floors, granite counter tops, spray painting the doors white, adding lighting, glass backsplash, glass doors and used some of the lower cabinets for an insland. The kitchen now is very functional and became the center of our friends and family gatherings.

Our kitchen was dark, ugly and outdated. But thanks to some thrifty shopping and a VERY handy dad, we were able to transform the space into a kitchen we love to hang out in, cook in, and be a family in. Our home has it's heart back!!!

this kitchen was new in 1979. It needed a reno but our budget was miserly. My husband got the cabinets free from a reno he was doing....it took him 3 days to get all the cabinets out without damage.....my husband did all the work on this kitchen himself....saving us tons of money.

I don't have tons of before pictures, but have some. Had to take all this old ugly 80's wallpaper off and paint. Also put new light fixtures, ceiling fan, and breakfast bar lights. Ripped out laminate flooring in part of kitchen and ugly blue carpeting in eating area with hard wood maple flooring. Replaced all hardware on cabinets as well.
Still adding decor to make it look better and will add those pics as I add the decor.

Four years after moving into our dream "wreck" of a home on the water in Baldwin Harbor, New York, we were finally ready to reno the kitchen. Best new features: the window seat to accommodate 8 people, or the occasional cat!

This kitchen was a gift from a friend of a friend who was redoing her kitchen. My husband and I worked on the design to make her cabinets work in our space. With the help of some amazing family and friends we are enjoying the finished product.

Our home is over 50 years old, so instead of buying a new home, we decided to pay this one off and remodel every room instead. This kitchen was remodeled by myself for under $1,000. The colors were originally white, gold, and black with on old tile floor. To save on the most costly upgrades, I simply painted/glazed the MDF white veneer cabinets (adding appliques. Instead of buying butcher-block, we just tiled over our existing laminate countertops and sealed well. We continued the hardwood flooring from the adjacent dining room. The mosaic backsplashes and range hood cost me about $50 each to create.

Everything in the Kitchen is repurposed! The bulk of the Omega custom cabinetry was salvaged from a store that closed. The gorgeous mantel over stove was gleamed from an auction.(It was a drapery company's display! I paired this with the panels above which I derived from the front of a desk. Even the french doors were reclaimed from a design home that sold and the owner switched doors! With a little imagination, and good planning you too can have a "Clive Christian" inspired kitchen for pennies on the dollar!

Hi. Please... need suggestions for my ugly tiny 9'x7' kitchen remodel. I started to paint the formica cabinets and replaced the horrid vinyl tiles (see other pics. I love bright colors on tight budget and inspired by an HGTV Color Splash kitchen meets Design on a Dime. I haven't chosen the final colors for the cabinet doors walls counter backspash. I'm thinking of light neutrals/white for the walls to keep it from feeling any smaller. New stainless steel appliances and vinyl tile.
