  • "Village With a SPECTACULAR VIEW!!" (A unique place to display your Christmas Village.), I wanted to share an idea with an unusual place to consider dispalying your Christmas village but then the San Diego sunset took over and the village became secondary! Oh yeah I like the village display too! (Some of you were inquiring about the display space factor-I have plenty of room to do this with deep counters see "Unique Small Changes add Drama" under my kitchens. I've got Tons of counter space and also a huge center island!) I can cook and enjoy the scenery!, Holidays Design

  • Open Living/Dining Room/Den and Kitchen, This condo is in an historic 1902 publishing company's old offices. (The historic Lippincott Publishing Company)

We essentially bought a white empty box of 1900 sq ft and had to do everything from scratch -- including bring up the plumbing and electric. We worked with an architect to design the space, but much of it was our own design and ideas.

Did all of the decorating myself. And while proud of it, would appreciate some thoughts, help, ideas on how to improve it. I enjoy decorating and design - but its just a fun hobby., Living Rooms Design

  • Budget Dining Room UPDATE, Yay, my dining room was picked by HGTV for their "Dining Rooms on a Budget: Our 10 Favorites From Rate My
Space http://www.hgtv.com/decorating/dining-rooms-on-a-budget-our-10-favorites-from-rate-my-space/pictures/page-2.html if the link doesn't work, it should work if you copy and paste it into the browser.
But since my post I have been working on changing the room a little, off course still on a budget. The paint changed from beige to grey, a new indoor/outdoor rug from Home Decorators, spray painted the urn white and some new DIY curtains with hardware from West Elm.

I have been seriously obsessed with horizontal striped curtains and after doing some research I decided to paint them.
http://cuckoo4design.blogspot.com/2012/03/another-horizontal-striped-curtain-diy.html

I love them and might make some more for my living room.

I bought the all-glass table at an estate auction for $25. The 1940s oil painting and the buffet mirror are also from different auctions each for $60. I would love to have button tufted chairs but I have 2 small children and 4 cats - so wicker it is for now, because it is super durable, I'm considering spray painting them one day.
I put up the crown molding myself.
I bought the light fixture in Germany. It is a replica of a designer chandelier which you can purchase at www.dwr.com for about $2000 and zgallery is selling a replica for about $350. I purchased mine for about $80., Dining Rooms Design

  • Floor to Ceiling Transformation, Originally, a G-shaped kitchen that basically divided my kitchen in half & only used 1/2 the space. I have totally gutted it, designed a new layout that would utilize the entire space. Created a lot more storage, along with more convenient functions, like pull out drawers, single basin sink & taller faucet. New floor, more lighting that I installed myself. I had a very small budget but I feel I got a "Bang For Your Bucks". And even though I've designed every inch of it and had a pretty good idea of how everything would look, the finished project actually turned out much more beautiful than I ever imagined. This has been a very rewarding experience.

  • Northwest Contemporary Kitchen Remodel, We purchased our outdated 1964 home 10 years ago and have been remodeling it slowly. We recently finished the kitchen/laundry addition. One of the main drawbacks of our home was the fact that there was no laundry room. The washer and dryer were previously located in a small closet off of the main hallway.

After much thought, we decided to include the washer/dryer in the new kitchen area. We'd seen this many times in European homes and decided it would be a good fit for us as well. So far, I've really enjoyed it. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and it has been really handy! Also the high counter tops over the washer/dryer makes a great buffet area, easily accessible to the patio area (coming soon...)

By far, the most difficult item for me to pick out was the counter tops. I really love the look of cement but was nervous to use it because it's not as durable. After months of looking at different materials we finally decided on quartz counter tops by Caesarstone in Raven. Hard to tell in the photos, but it's a very soft black/deep gray. We went with stained concrete for my table though and I absolutely LOVE it! In fact, it's my favorite part of the kitchen!

I've spent countless hours both watching HGTV and browsing here on the website getting ideas for the remodel. RATE MY SPACE was the source of much inspiration and I've been looking forward to finally adding my own photos to it :)

Our goal was to create a warm, cozy kitchen area that all four of us could enjoy. Used warm colors to help counter the LONG, gray Oregon days. We're happy with the results!

Thanks for taking a look :)
