Our 1950s era kitchen got a complete makeover. We kept the original white enamel cabinets and porcelain sink and changed everything else. New white appliances, custom shelves and moldings, bead board, subway tile backsplash, black countertops, painted wood floors and a great color scheme transform this Donna Reed cramped kitchen into a vintage modern kitchen that you don't want to leave!

My hubby finally finished trimming out the soffit above my oak kitchen cabinets.that I painted. As I posted before, this is just a budget clean-up of my kitchen until I can redesign this room in a few years. The wall color is SW Blonde and the formica counter tops were painted with Giani Granite Paint. Hubby put up the backsplash, he still has some baseboard work to do yet. All new stainless appliances.

Hand painted mural of a jungle scene with different animals. Painted by Helayna's mom Amy.I used basic wall paint (egg shell in all of my rooms. I bought basic colors; red yellow green blue etc. and mixed them to make other colors. Using wall paints makes it easy to clean if need be.I picked the jungle theme because we didn't know if we were having a girl or a boy.

This nursery was designed for a show house benefiting the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The room is shabby chic with a modern twist on color. It was super fun to do - and for a GREAT cause!

Major no-budget decorating. I painted the cement floors to look like tile after I tore down wallpaper, painted the walls, and ripped out carpet and ran out of $$. Cheap furniture (Rooms to go bed - I was hoping one piece would look more expensive than the whole set. Trying to keep whole house in same color pallet. Floor painting instructions are provided with the TILE PIC.

Ok so this isn't in the living room but I couldn't find a space titled "hallway" I painted this at the bottom of our stairs that lead to the home gym. It is the definition for FAMILY. It took FOREVER and my hand ached for days but I am happy with the results. I only wish now it was somewhere more prominent in the home! Thanks for looking and thanks in advance for all your kind comments!

Here's my favorite spot in our backyard ... and front yard, for that matter!
I love to sit out here in the morning, look out into the woods and listen to the birds sing. The space is the patio outside my walkout basement. It is below the deck off the main floor. The little cleyera shrubs we planted several years ago have grown up to create a little privacy on one side. On the other side of the patio, the house juts out making a little enclave; my own little sanctuary. I will miss this space most of all when we move. tear :'-(

Extra seating with apple green ottomans, complimented with a Fuchsia chair and pillows updated a once cream and black room with limited lighting and seating.

This kitchen is very small and was seriously ugly when I bought the house but now it is an absolute joy. Because it was so small it had to be totally custom built to fit and work effectively. See more at www.asenseofdesign.blogspot.com

My house is about 100 years old, and I wanted my kitchen redo to reflect the age of the home, while still being functional and reflecting my romantic, cottage style.

When we first bought our house, the kitchen was 10 years old with no life to it. I had a vision that I turned into reality. I painted and glazed my old oak cabinets, added crown molding, hardware, new counters, flooring, back splash, appliances and under cabinet lighting. This kitchen went from drab to fab! It definitely lived up to its potential and it wasn't that expensive to do.
*UPDATE: I have had an enormous amount of comments wanting the directions to this process, so I have included a link to access the directions for those who would like it. Thanks to everyone for your outpouring of praise and support! I can't actually create a link here so you will have to copy this link and paste it in your address bar.
Took a week and a half of painting during son's "nap time" but I finally finished. My 5 year old daughter says it looks "Fableeous" so I guess it really was worth all the effort. Seriously though-at least 2 years of contimplation to paint over the oak but I'm happy I finally did it. The paint color is made by Glidden and called Bone White. The glaze is called Raw Umber. Both sold at Home Depot. The new cabinet pulls I purchased from Ebay-pretty cheap-less than $2 each.

We created a classic, yet modern black and white kitchen for a Cape Cod style home. I LOVE the look of the beach house in the movie "Something's Gotta Give."
