  • Girls Dorm Room-Fun & Functional with homemade headboards, Your typical dorm room with the drab block walls that we aren't allowed to paint.... as moms we all try to create that home away from home feeling for our children leaving the nest!! Of course, those 1st pics of "our" creation for them is the only time it will look great! - Neat & clean, etc.! So these were taken on moving day! We made matching headboards & my talented mother pitched in on the sewing of the dustruffles! The comforter & pillows I got from PB teen! - Along with the splurge on the rug (which was actually the inspiration for the room!) We had the old bulletin board & painted that to match. Our daughter loved her "new" room!, Dorm Rooms Design

  • The look for a lot less-before & after, transitional kitchen style. i spent a lot of time pricing and revising plan to achieve a custom kitchen look without the price tag. because i love to cook but hate to clean, function was just as important as aesthetics. behind pocket door (left of ovens) is my pantry with custom looking cabinets and wood countertops (home depot unfinished cabinets w/ trim molding added and salvaged wood countertops) w/ built-in microwave and prep sink. • Painted and glazed cabinets, What do you do when you have quality cabinets but hate the dark color? You paint and glaze them. This small kitchen was perfectly fine but the homeowner wanted a lighter feel. We painted the cabinet and then added new hardware and a glaze for that special touch. I even painted a small table for her daughter that coordinates with her Mackenzie-Childs collection. I only wish that I took a before picture! , Kitchens Design

  • Fun with Picasso, I wanted to get rid of my oak cabinets but cannot remodel so my latest endeavor (when we first moved in I had painted them a cream color) was painting the cabinets in a rustic zebra wood and a mural that wraps the island. Our counters and back splash are gray concrete with a small stripe of glass tiles. Far from the norm! We love it! I'm now thinking of painting the bottom cabinets black. Any thoughts? The countertops are actually a top coat so they're not poured. No grout to clean. Easy to maintain and very happy with them., Kitchens Design

  • Painted kitchen with wood island, The ceilings are 10' tall so we had the cabinets go all the way up. All of the upper cabinets have lights inside and the boxes were built of alder and stained to match the island. The island has a flush eating ledge to give me a larger prep area. We added a small phone desk with upper glass cabinets across from the nook made use of a very odd space. I did all of the design work and my husband built it he is such a great craftsman!!! • Made Autumn Oak Into Old World, We wanted to do a kitchen remodel with new cabinets, appliances, backsplash, lighting, etc. However, our old oak cabinets were so well made we just couldn't bear the thought of throwing them away and investing $25k on new cabinets. We took the risk of having them professionally painted, glazed and distressed with new hardware. Our cabinet refinishing process was:
Sand and prepare surface
  Caulk gaps and holes
  Backfill oak wood grains
  Paint basecoat
  Sand edges
  Stain edges
  Seal wood
  Glaze over surface

They were professionally painted by:

  • Painted Kitchen Cabinets, Here are a few photos of my "design on a dime" kitchen makeover. It's a work in progress. I hated my builder-grade, orange oak cabinets from the 1990s, so I painted over them, and added some Ikea handles. I plan to change the backsplash to something more modern soon, and tweak things here and there. It would be nice to have some under-cabinet lighting. This entire "reno" cost a few hundred dollars. It's definitely worth it if you want to give your oak kitchen an easy update., Kitchens Design

  • This Young House's Living Room, Our living room was a nightmare when we purchased the house two years ago but we whipped it into shape with a little elbow grease and some nice neutral furniture. We even added a dining area off of the kitchen to enjoy a more open floorplan and better use our loooong living room. • Fauxabulous Painted Kitchen, My husband and I totally gutted this kitchen moving plumbing walls appliances basically everything to try to get the most out of the small space. We really wanted a unique look on a budget so we decided on the wainscoting for a back splash which I then aged with a glaze. The walls are textured and glazed and then I had added a raised leaf using a stencil scattered throughout. P.S. - Please disregard the stove. That is the next to be updated : ), Kitchens Design
