  • COLOR CHOICE MADE FOR THIS OLD HOME!!, This has been a very tough descision to make..I do not like to pick colors, escpecially when they will be on the home for 30+ yrs hopefully.. The roof we had put on the house in 1999..And it is brown,,(thinking should have been different) anyways, that limits choices of colors..THE COLORS WE PICKED WILL BE A WICKER FOR HOUSE, ALMOND FOR THE TRIM AND TRIM PIECES, AND BLACK SHUTTERS FOR THE TOP WINDOW.And a crown above the window to match the rest of the windows but in almond..IT WILL ONLY BE THE TOP AND THE DORMERS TO BE SIDED RIGHT NOW!Due to money constrants,Baby steps..We picked Mastic Brentwood siding If we do not get to siding next yr..I will paint the other parts..Except the back which definetley needs to be sided..Way to tall.. I will post pics when done.., Home Exterior Design

  • Before and After, Pitched a design to my contractor and he came through for me. Wanted to bring back some of the 1940's carector by using a cedar composite (easy to take care of), also wanted to create layers of texture, contrast and color.

The sider has a technique of creating a "J" channel with the trim, you can see this on the windows, by doing this he doesnt have to "J" channel the windows with the normal "J" channel, it gives it a nice clean look around the windows.

I still need to do some work on the fence, walkway and garage but this part of the exterior was the biggest that needed to be done. There was 5! layers of shingles on the roof. We estimated that to about 9 tons of shingles!, Home Exterior Design

  • Big changes little dollars, Exterior of my first " Go Green " renovation. Craig's List, Ebay, Habitat for Humanities are a few of the places I purchased items from. The goal was to re-use building products and keep our costs low by searching and bartering through local souces. This is an investment rental property, purchased at the right price due to lack of care & maintenance. By finding those special deals we received quality items and cut our renovation costs by almost half. You might want to keep in mind, that I worked the site during the day and surfed Craig's list and watched TV at night. I spent quite a bit of time surfing and chasing after these items across two states, but ultimately I saved a lot. Thank You for taking the time to look at my projects., Home Exterior Design

  • Pink siding= boring house, My 70's split level house. The siding was done by the previous homeowner and its pink. The house originally had a dormer(?) roof. The top level on the front was the roofing material and the sides were done in the "housing" material. Help. This is going to be expensive to re-side. Also the front porch needs some design help, Home Exterior Design

  • Fine Lake home "not" so fine! We need HELP with color., Our house needs a new look! What color should we paint the window trim, the decking, and handrail. The house needs some character with landscaping as well. Also looking for advise on decorating the deck with outdoor patio lights and furniture, ect. We feel that the house is too bland and it needs some character. We live in a house that is 1,600 sq. ft. on the main level, and 1,200 sq. ft. on the lower level. It has a light grey vinyl shake siding called "weathered white". The windows are trimmed out in cedar painted white. It has double hung white windows, and two white french doors facing the lake. The lakeside is considered the front. There is a front deck that wraps around to the back of the home and it is a grey Trex maintenance-free decking. The deck railing is cedar painted white with aluminum spindals. The gutter is 6 in., 1/2 round, galvalium. There is a detached garage with the same siding, trim, and gutter. There is no lanscaping to speak of. We are desparately needing advise on how to create a shabby chic look, that is fun, and inviting, but yet elegant. , Home Exterior Design

  • HELP! Can Cottage Style Work?, This photo is my house without all the plants that now cover a good deal of it. The rusted aluminum awning was replaced with a canvas dome awning & it's shredded from the heavy winds we get & it's 19 yrs. old. The stone veneer is horrible & I'm considering painting it. My husband & I would love to be able to sit on a front porch & chat with all the people that use our area for walking their dogs. Is it possible to achieve a cozy cottage style by adding a covered porch which would break the monotony of the "no style" 2-story? I absolutely fell in love with CottageConvert's "Cozy Cottage" craftsman home under Home Exteriors & would love to replicate the look using the same colors she used. I'd appreciate any suggestions., Porches Design

  • Architectural Details, I incorporated elements from several home styles on the exterior. Purists please don't hate me! Some still needs a finish coat of white paint thus the primer you see on small details. Unfortunately all the original detail had been stripped off and replaced with ugly white aluminum siding. I love stained glass so have added some plus am planning to add more., Home Exterior Design

  • Soon-to-be Home, I need opinions as soon as possible! My house is currently being built. It has clay color vinyl siding, with vinyl shake shingles in the gables, and a copper porch roof. I've edited the photos to show what the house will look like when done (added shutters, painted porch, etc). There are 2 versions of the house exterior - the shake shingles in the left gable are different. The 1st photo is the way the builder currently has the house. The 2nd photo shows what it is supposed to look like, according to the house plans. I'm trying to decide whether I should leave the house as is (1st photo) or have the builder change the shingles on it (2nd photo). Need opinions please! Which exterior looks better to you? All comments/suggestions are appreciated!, Home Exterior Design

  • 1870's Farmhouse gets Designer Color!, our 1870's Farmhouse gets a facelift--
Designer Color "Regatta Blue" from Crane siding. This siding is 7" clapboard with insulation backing. Each piece of siding is actually two 7" pieces together, for a total width of 14". Front porch is vinyl posts, rails, and pickets, with ceiling trim to jazz up the top. Stonework on kitchen addition will be completed closer to this fall, cooler weather is better for mortar than the heat of summer... More pics will be added as exterior is completed. , Home Exterior Design
