  • Master bedroom, My master bedroom is very comfortable! The special ceiling is pretty awesome.....we had the best trim carpenter in town. We gave him a general idea of what we wanted and he went above and beyond in every instance. I couldn't have been more pleased with how this turned out. I expected something like a simple step-up ceiling and he gave me this!, Bedrooms Design

  • Curtain Suggestions, My favorite color combo is grey, navy blue, white, & yellow so I'm trying to create that look in this room. I saw a painting at American Signature Furniture that was black, white, grey, & yellow that I want between the windows (when it goes on sale). That being said I'm trying to find some curtains to match my table. What do you think of any of these?? Should I get yellow or stick with white curtains? FYI the colored pillows and picture frame will NOT stay in room, I actually moved it from living room (please check that space out) & had nowhere else to put it. This room will be white, navy blue, grey, yellow...no red curtains!! :), Living Rooms Design

  • Romantic, Cozy, and Bold Master Bedroom, Great blend of masculine and feminine features makes this a romantic room, both cozy and bold {I hope!}. The bedding and furniture is dark and masculine and the artwork is floral and sensual. Burst of orange through paint, drapery, and artwork wake up a light green and navy blue background and compliment the {initially unappealing} essentially orange wood floors. A weathered mirror and steamer trunk, decorative suitcase boxes, books, and a globe add a worldly theme. A cozy chair turns the bay windows into a reading nook.

The room features lots of DIY projects to meet storage needs, architectural challenges, and our budget. These include: a ceiling fan-to-chandelier transformation; a full-length mirror in a walled-up doorway; doubled drapes to block the intense morning sun {cheap individually, but look luxurious together}; and a headboard "extension" to cover an electrical panel {that also adds reading lights}. With few closets in the apartment we need lots of storage, but I wanted the room to feel cozy, not too cluttered. So, I've camouflaged the a self-built storage box {for air conditioners or winter clothes} by upholstering it to visually be an extension of the bed, and I chose a cedar chest that matched the floor color to take less visual space. The wicker laundry hampers below a floating shelf make a dual purpose nightstand in a tight space.

I love finding bargain pieces and customizing them so they can be incorporated into the room without looking cheap {I hope!}. The consistent use of dark wicker items is the main example of this. I've added artwork on a budget: mounting posters on foam board and presenting them frameless {tip - undercut the edges at ~45 degrees with a razor blade so the foam core doesn't show}; including original photography in $20 garage sale frames {tip - splurging a bit on the dark navy matte makes them look professionally done for the room}; and using inexpensive fabric, a Chinese scarf, and {$35!} lamps to compose the headboard extension.

The grassy floral arrangements and the doorway drapery were picked to help it relate with the adjoining rooms, which hopefully I'll finish off and post soon! I've had an awesome time designing my husband and I's perfect bedroom, and I hope you can take something away from it too!, Bedrooms Design

  • Easy Victorian Ceiling Solution!!!, I finally got the ceiling finished in my master bedroom. I had to find an inexpensive solution to the ugly popcorn drop ceiling tiles, so I went with 2x2 tiles from wishihadthat.com made by Ceilume. I was able to use the existing grid. The tiles were only $4.95 each. Along with the new medallion I was able to get a new ceiling for under $200!!!, Bedrooms Design
