  • White and Grey Christmas, After painting grey and white curtains for our dining room and loving them so much - I decided (for this Christmas) to also paint some new curtains for our living room. It was a lot of work but I love it. The curtains are Merete Ikea curtains and Home Decorators curtain rods which are great. I also refurbished my old ottoman by the fireplace in West Elm Ikat and painted the legs black. I do like the turnout.

  • Love my new couch, I painted my curtains and you can read here how I did it:

If the link doesn't work and it says link doesn't exist on the blog, IT DOES EXIST. Just copy and paste it into the browser and it will work. I don't know why that happens sometimes. (The link adds a <br><br> at the end of the webaddress, you can also just delete that and it'll take you to the tutorial)

I finally purchased a new couch and I love it. The couch is the Claudia Sofa from Macy's.
Now I'm still on the hunt for a new coffee table. I'm kind of getting sick of my ottoman which I had only bought because my kids were toddlers and I didn't want them to get hurt on hard edges and corners.
For the coffee table I think I will go with a gold Hollywood Regency table or a modern chrome and marble top table. Lets see what I can find in an affordable option.
A lot of people always ask me why I have light colored flooring even though that the trend is to go really dark. The reason is dust and dirt! Most of my friends that have dark floors go crazy trying to keep their dark hardwood floors looking clean. I don't, because you can't see the dust and cat hair from 4 cats as much. That is also the reason why I have a traditional persian style area rug. I actually would much rather have a graphic patterned rug but they are hard to keep clean again. I've tried other rugs before. The pattern of my rug is forgiving!
That is the reason why I have the ikea pillows. They are easy to wash and keep clean. And if one is ruined, they are cheap and easy to replace.
I guess I'd rather compromise with my large busy family. Two kids and four cats do make a lot of dirt but my house mostly looks clean! , Living Rooms Design

  • Budget Dining Room UPDATE, Yay, my dining room was picked by HGTV for their "Dining Rooms on a Budget: Our 10 Favorites From Rate My
Space http://www.hgtv.com/decorating/dining-rooms-on-a-budget-our-10-favorites-from-rate-my-space/pictures/page-2.html if the link doesn't work, it should work if you copy and paste it into the browser.
But since my post I have been working on changing the room a little, off course still on a budget. The paint changed from beige to grey, a new indoor/outdoor rug from Home Decorators, spray painted the urn white and some new DIY curtains with hardware from West Elm.

I have been seriously obsessed with horizontal striped curtains and after doing some research I decided to paint them.
http://cuckoo4design.blogspot.com/2012/03/another-horizontal-striped-curtain-diy.html

I love them and might make some more for my living room.

I bought the all-glass table at an estate auction for $25. The 1940s oil painting and the buffet mirror are also from different auctions each for $60. I would love to have button tufted chairs but I have 2 small children and 4 cats - so wicker it is for now, because it is super durable, I'm considering spray painting them one day.
I put up the crown molding myself.
I bought the light fixture in Germany. It is a replica of a designer chandelier which you can purchase at www.dwr.com for about $2000 and zgallery is selling a replica for about $350. I purchased mine for about $80., Dining Rooms Design
