  • Tropical "Staycation" in Sunny Florida, We have almost finally completed the renovation of our backyard "staycation" patio area, to enjoy in sunny Florida. We live in a gated subdivision where unfortunatly our lot backs to another street with houses. We wanted to make our backyard area a place we could use as an extension to our house. One of our main concerns was adding pricacy for ourselves, and also the neighbors that directly back to our house. I think we've finally achieved our goal. The only thing remaining is to add lights for the evenings, and lastly a outside fireplace.

  • Dilapidated Disaster Area, After losing our 12 year old golden recently, it's time to concentrate on the outdoor space. There's dead grass, a torn gazebo top, cracked patio, too big of a planting area that's a hodge podge of different plants. All of which aren't doing all that great., Yards Design

  • The Gazebo Garden, My husband and I constructed this garden to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Our boys helped to build the patio and retaining wall. It's our favorite place to hang out in the summer. The gazebo is screened in so we don't have to worry about bugs. There are four large maple trees surrounding the gazebo so it is cool and breezy. We have a hammock strung up between two of the trees and it's a great place to nap or relax. The hammock is big enough for both of us so we use this as a spot to reconnect with each other after a busy week., Gardens Design

  • Southern Perennial Landscape with Color, We designed this outdoor garden space ourselves by combining organics and topsoil into the subsoil and then forming curves and lines with a water-hose. I'd like to know what people think and if they have any recommendations for improving or alternatives. I'd also like comments for improvement to my website that contains more photos and details about how we designed this space. The site is:, Yards Design

  • It's a Jungle in Here!, The goal in designing my son's room was that it be colorful, full of texture & three-dimensional. Each scene is made up of at least three layers of media. I tried to carry the jungle theme throughout the nursery by having branches continue through the verticle blinds & appear on the next wall. The trees were made out of foam board. Then we added contact paper, jungle themed paper & various layers of greenery. The animal photos were taken at various zoos & blown up to poster size (20 x 30). We cut them out & glued them to poster board then adhered them to the wall with liquid nails. We used various shades of grasses & cattails over a green hill for the baby zebra scene. The cheetah's rock was painted with Ralph Lauren River Rock paint to add a rough texture & completed the scene with tall grass. Finally, the orangutan & giraffe have manilla rope & netting to give them an extra layer. These will be removed once our baby boy is old enough to cause any havoc! ; ) It was a huge project that my niece, nephew & I worked on during my maternity leave. One pleasant surprise in the design was the movement in the greenery when the ceiling fan is on. The gentle rustling of the leaves & grass add a nice touch that really makes the room come alive. The nursery turned out just as I had hoped & I'm thrilled every time my newborn son curiously stares around at the jungle in his room!
