We recently had the luxury of building a home, allowing me to take my first stab at design. I had a blast and absolutely love our room. I'm always open to suggestions though- especially for ways to accessorize while still keeping it clean and contemporary.

We started with a gold sofa and decided we needed some color in our family room. We have a sunken living room with a large bay window on one side and no walls on the other side. It was a challenge to find furniture to work in this space.

Window panels & hardware that were on backorder finally arrived. They were installed over the weekend, along with delivering a $30 thrifted buffet I sanded, primed, painted and stained. The buffuet, set under the existing wall mounted tv, gave not only weight to this side of the space, but also adds concealed storage.
Although bookcases or etegers could have worked on the left and right wall, the person this space was designed for didn't want the "clutter" of books displayed. And I wasn't going to put bookcases just to fill them with store bought 'stuff'. She's in transition in her life, and is looking for a clean comfortable space.
This space is part of an "L" shaped open living room. Since I was keeping the sofa along the wall - to maintain the view to the patio - I needed to create a flexible seating area to bridge the sofa to the wall mounted TV. These four slipper chairs, set around another refinished thrifted find - a Drexel Heritage solid wood coffee table found for only $40 -did the trick. And even though these two thrifted pieces were found at two seperate shops, their lines and finish work together to give a cohesive look to the space, without breaking the budget. Her existing silver framed wall art is balanced on the opposite wall with a grid of four silver frames from Ikea. The mirrored [Beekman] sconces I found at ZGallerie and help give a reflective quality to this space. The only thing missing: two Spathiphyllum plants to place under the pictures which will give the space 'life'.

I have to totally apologize! I posted this space day before yesterday but while trying to rearrange to shots I wound up deleting everyones very nice comments. I'm so sorry! The worst thing about it was loosing the links to their beautiful spaces.

This is my work in progress. I love the crisp sophistication of black and cream. I think it works really well with the vintage pieces in the room. I have cream material the same color as the walls to make drapes and need a black box pleated bedskirt to finish the bed. I decided to go without a headboard so it wouldn't encroach on the artwork. I was hoping to get a bit of an art salon feel with the wall behind the bed. You can also visit me at www.thepickledhutch.blogspot.com

Repurposing, repositioning bring new excitement and joy every year to our Holiday decor. It takes a long time to decorate as I try to figure out how to change things.

This is my second baby but my first girl. Decorating my son's room when he was born was fun and easy. Decorating for a girl is totally different; there are so many options and so many cute things that the most difficult part about it was trying to not go overboard. There is a lot going on, but I just love it. I made a lot of the stuff in her room myself.
Thanks for looking :

This my "wild" fun family room! It's Christmas-with a lively safari twist. Christmas doesn't always have to be traditional or just red and green! I thoroughly enjoyed handcrafting the unique decor. Come take a walk on the wild side...The rest of my Christmas home tour (more elegant traditional is under "Deck the Halls With Wows and Folly".

1978 english tudor was all dark & ugly paneling when we moved in. I've been working to brighten lighten & add the colors I love. It all started w/the fabric on the swag valance which I made myself & the coordinating plaid on the wingback. The 1930's secretary was the 1st piece my husband & I bought after we were married . Thanks for looking.
