  • Vintage Farmhouse Bathroom with Modern Appeal, Prestine 1960's: that would be the description of this bathroom when I bought my farmhouse. Yellow toilet, sink and shower. Psychedelic flower themed wallpaper. Orange carpet. Yes, carpet in the bathroom, on top of which the toilet sat. Yuck. Hazmat suit for demo? Yes, please. We gutted this bathroom down to the floor joists. We ran new electrical and installed a bathroom fan. We moved the toilet to accommodate a claw foot tub. And we busted down a wall to install a neo-angle glass shower. This was the first full room I remodeled in my house and I chose to go with a very vintage feel. I choose traditional penny tiles for the flooring and pine edge and center bead for the walls and ceiling. I decided to install pedestal sinks with vintage-y chrome faucets. Even though, I don't have as much storage space as I did before with the clunky plywood cabinet, I don't mind. There is something a little gross about storing things long term in a bathroom, don't you think? I choose to tile the shower with white subway tiles and to accent it with a glass tile. The glass shower door and the glass tile add a modern touch to a very vintage bath. I replaced the 1960 brass door knob on the bathroom door with a cast iron and glass replica knob made by a company in NH that has been producing door knobs, shelving brackets and other miscellaneous hardware since the 1890's. I figured the original door knobs from this house that were lost many years ago may have come from this company. It feels a little more like restoration and less like rote remodeling when I can find something from the same period to put back into the house. It brings peace to a house that upon entering looks chaotic - decades of mismatched remodels that don't quiet flow with one another or the original character of the house itself. And in the end, that is my purpose with this house - to right the wrongs of the past and restore it to its original splendor., Bathrooms Design

  • Georgia Gem Kitchen, Kitchen Remodel I completed this year in my home. The kitchen was very small so I had to open up the pantry and close off the hallway gap to extend the kitchen counter. The granite and lighting also wrap around to extend the kitchen and make it seem bigger. Although I would have loved to, I didn't salvage anything from this old kitchen. I took on 90% of the remodel work myself on this one., Kitchens Design

  • The Babe Cave! A Craft Room and beyond!, If a Dude gets a "Man Cave", what does a woman get? Welcome to my Babe Cave! My room is just what every gal needs--a place to craft, a place to chat, a place to watch a movie, a place to gossip...a place that celebrates HER and not the rest of the family! Welcome to The Ladies' Lounge! 18ft of counter space along the edge of the room works for computing or crafting. The island in the center serves as an eating area or cutting table or WHATEVER! A bar area in the corner of the room, keeps the wine chilling all night! A sweet little window seat is great for curling up with a book! I hope you like it. I am not a decorator or seamstress or carpenter, but I did everything in this room myself!!, Other Spaces Design

  • Emmy's Parisian Chic Nursery, When my husband and I found out we were having a little girl, my wheels immediately started spinning and construction began! I have always loved wainscot, so that was the first DIY project my husband tackled. I maximized space by setting the armoire caddy-corner with a changing station to the left and the crib directly on the opposing wall. The glider and ottoman is also caddy corner next to the changing station. I found an antique mahogany two-tier table with scallop edging from Craigslist -$50- and my mom refinished it in a black pearl stain with gold etching and tulip flowers with the letter M for Baby Morgan. The picture-in-picture was a design inspiration that my mom found in an interior decor magazine. We replicated the idea, wallpapering each of the inside panels bordered with molding, and placed vintage pictures that have been with my family for several years. On the 'changing station' wall, the other two picture-in-pictures have wired vintage figures of a manikin silhouette and Eiffel tower for that Parisian flare. My mother-in-law made all the bedding, drapery, and diaper hanging sack from fabric we picked out a local fabric warehouse in Buena Park, CA. The crib cornice and curtain tie backs were a great find at the Princess Canopy Shop on Etsy. They are stained in black pearl with brass/gold etching. We purchased the 'M' wall monogram from CraftCarve on Etsy (the lowest price and high quality finish.) I bought the hanging chandelier on closeout with black shades and matching pink bows were tied using the leftover pink satin bedding fabric. The furniture was purchased locally and the lamp was purchased on clearance at Tuesday Morning -$50-. I shopped around for the rug and bought it for 50% less than retail from BoldRugs.com after they price matched another competitors price. The crib mobile was purchased on target.com., Nurseries Design

  • ~*No RoOm For A TreE Up HerE!*~, My living room decorated for the Holidays! Definitely had to make due with what I already had with the exception of the small wreath on the mirror. I bought the wreath base at the Dollar Tree and then used what I had to create the wreath. Even though I don't have room for a tree up here I at least wanted it to look somewhat festive for the Holiday's. Maybe eventually I could get one of those kinda skinny trees for up here. We do have a tree, it's just in the basement in my daughter's little living area. , Living Rooms Design
