  • HGTV RMS Inspiration Room - my new kitchen photos, My kitchen is one of the inspiration rooms on episode #208 of the Rate My Space Show. Thank you Angelo, Jillian and HGTV for choosing my kitchen as an inspiration room. It was quite an honor and a lot of fun being on the show. I renovated my kitchen a couple of years ago. We went from an outdated 1980's kitchen to this. The original kitchen had pickled oak cabinets with white formica countertops. I wish I had taken a "before" picture to show you. The change is remarkable., Kitchens Design

  • Brand new kitchen, This kitchen is in a 1970s era home in Knoxville Tennessee. We took down two walls to create this space and completely removed the old kitchen. I like contemporary. My wife leans toward country. We met in the middle. We both love it! This remodel took about six months of planning (we thought about it for years) and about three months for the construction. Look to the right for more photos. And visit my blog on HGTV.com for more details. http://blogs.scrippsnetworks.com/hgtv/kitchenremodel/, Kitchens Design

  • Painted and Glazed Cabinets .. How to Step by Step, If you love painted cabinets with that "Old World" feel see how I achieved the look in my kitchen. I can't however take all of the credit for this remodel. Without my sister-in-law I could not have achieved all of this in 1 week. Thank You could never convey how grateful I am for her help and how much fun I had with her that week. Take a look I have tried to break it down day by day I hope this will inspire you to try this on your own. If you don't have a sister-in-law I rent mine., Kitchens Design

  • Joeys Small Bathroom Remodel, Glass tiles Vessel sink Tub Surround. Entire project was DIY. I tried to achieve the spa/hotel look and feel.WOW. Thank you everyone for all of your kind responses and feedback!!!The sink is made by a company named Suneli and I bought it from a local bathroom design store. The glass tiles go all the way to the floor and behind the toilet. I haven't had any problems with water splashing everywhere with this vessel. Thanks again to everyone on the RMS community.

***I found the glass tile from a local Classified ad here in Los Angeles. It seems to be different shades of olive green, sage, and tan. , Bathrooms Design

  • Hotel-like Master Bedroom, The paint on the walls is from Benjamin Moore. The original color was #1619 - Silver Mist. I had the paint store make it more of a gray-blue. So it ended up being a custom color. The pictures have been raised a bit and the silver E has been relocated. Thanks for looking!, Bedrooms Design

  • LESS IS MORE APPROACH, Unlike the old-world basement bath in our previous house (see "Roman" bath if interested) the basement in our new house got a simple powder room. No "party" shower no sauna ... just a clean almost minimalist look. When is less more? As always thanks for visiting!
CEILING PAINT is different from the wall paint. Ceiling paint is a light silver metallic paint by Ralph Lauren (Home Depot), while walls are painted with Ben Moore Smokestack Gray. Ceiling took 5 coats but was well worth it. , Bathrooms Design

  • Studio - Tiny Space, Big Ideas (Before and After), This 483 square foot condo was a complete renovation and was a 100% DIY. Being a studio, space was obviously an issue. By using versatile furniture selections and coming up with sneaky storage solutions we were able to come up with a space that is both comfortable and inviting.

This was my first and only flip I've done since graduating with a degree in interior design. I plan on getting into the flipping business when the market turns back around.

  • Northwest Contemporary Kitchen Remodel, We purchased our outdated 1964 home 10 years ago and have been remodeling it slowly. We recently finished the kitchen/laundry addition. One of the main drawbacks of our home was the fact that there was no laundry room. The washer and dryer were previously located in a small closet off of the main hallway.

After much thought, we decided to include the washer/dryer in the new kitchen area. We'd seen this many times in European homes and decided it would be a good fit for us as well. So far, I've really enjoyed it. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and it has been really handy! Also the high counter tops over the washer/dryer makes a great buffet area, easily accessible to the patio area (coming soon...)

By far, the most difficult item for me to pick out was the counter tops. I really love the look of cement but was nervous to use it because it's not as durable. After months of looking at different materials we finally decided on quartz counter tops by Caesarstone in Raven. Hard to tell in the photos, but it's a very soft black/deep gray. We went with stained concrete for my table though and I absolutely LOVE it! In fact, it's my favorite part of the kitchen!

I've spent countless hours both watching HGTV and browsing here on the website getting ideas for the remodel. RATE MY SPACE was the source of much inspiration and I've been looking forward to finally adding my own photos to it :)

Our goal was to create a warm, cozy kitchen area that all four of us could enjoy. Used warm colors to help counter the LONG, gray Oregon days. We're happy with the results!

Thanks for taking a look :)

  • Tuscan Chic, We just finished our kitchen. We used a rich cork color for the walls and added a tin backsplash. I still need to do a few more things. EDIT: Thank you for your comments and suggestions. Rather than post a comment I will answer a few FAQ here: The paint color is Ralph Lauren's CORK from The Vintage Masters series (HOME DEPOT). My cabinets & flooring are Solid Maple with a clear coat. The Tin Backsplash was done in an Antique silver Satin finish. Thanks again for your comments and ratings!, Kitchens Design

  • Master Bedroom Update, I traded in the bright blue for a mocha color with blue accents. To answer some questions the paint color is Mocha Accent from Behr, the leather bed is from Hank's Fine Furniture(but they don't have this same bed anymore), the dresser & mirror, 2 nightstands & big mirror came from Nebraska Furniture Mart, ladder shelf lamps and curtains are from Target. Check out the last picture I recently added a zebra rug! Thanks for all the wonderful comments!, Bedrooms Design

  • Intimate and Inviting SMALL Dining Room, Hi This is a repost of my dining room. I have made small changes such as adding black shades on the light fixture & new accessories on the buffet. Faux diamond treatment with a brown glaze on the walls. Upholstery tacks were used at the intersection of each diamond. Purchased the silk plaid fabric & had the drapery panels made. They are hung with finials screwed into the wall. Recovered the chairs with coordinating fabric. , Dining Rooms Design

  • Small Bath Oasis Transformation, Our "basic builder" bathroom previously consisted of a 5x8 space with your basic, boring white vanity, white tub, and white cheap-o tile, and boring wall paper. We were inspired by several of the bathrooms we saw on this website plus many HGTV shows that gave us the inspiration we needed. We wanted a contemporary spa feel with modern amenities. Although our space is small we took advantage of the high 9' ceiling by running the tile all the way to the ceiling and installing 4" recessed lighting. This really draws your eye up! We used 18x18 tiles on the wall, 6x6 on the shower floor, and a great 1" tile around the vanity and toilet. It's actually a mix of glass tile and slate. The vanity, sink, and faucet were purchased on-line and the mirror was cut locally to fit the exact space.

We are thrilled at the transformation and can't believe how much bigger our 5x8 space now appears!

ADDED INFO-- Thank you all for the kind comments, we are amazed at the feedback! Thank You! Several questions have been asked about the cost and materials, so here's the info....

COST-- We loved the comment about estimating the cost at $40,000. Actually, it cost $8,000 for everything.

DESIGNER-- Someone asked if we hired a professional designer. Nope. We are addicted to HGTV and picked up lots of tips and ideas from the show (esp. Candice, Vern, Angelo and David Bromstad) and this website. We purchased all of the materials ourselves. We did some of the work ourselves and hired a great contractor for the tough stuff.

FAUCET-- Purchased at ExpressDecor.com for $139

VANITY-- It's a Decolav vanity (5510-ES) that includes the sink. EveryVesselSink.com for $900

TILE-- All purchased at Expo (Isn't it a shame that they are all closing!). 1x1 Glass Tile/Slate were the most expensive of all of the materials! $32/sf. From Oceanside Glass Tile (glasstile.com) it's Geologie High Desert. The 18x18 shower wall tile is from Daltile (5202 Golddust) @ $2/sf. The 6x6 shower floor tile is CTI Tile (Rex Shabui, Charcoal Black).

MIRROR- cut locally and custom frame from Aaron Brothers.

PAINT-- Sherwin-Williams (SW6078 Realist Beige).

Thanks again for all of the kind remarks! If we can do it-- so can you!, Bathrooms Design

  • $1,200-Budget Pad-Revised, I'm a student in LA and everything is so expensive. However the new place I just moved in was so ugly making me depressed so I had to do something. After a month of work a $1200 budget and too many trips to Ikea HomeDepot and art stores I have finished my very first decorated 1-bedroom apartment that is truly me (and my financial status still remains sound). I also made all the weird art pieces on the walls (~$30 each) from styrofoam and snap-off blade knife (see my comments on pic#7), Living Rooms Design

  • Elegant Teen Room, My daughter has a very small room (10 x 11). The space was a challenge to work with. It was time to update her room from CA surfer theme to something chic with a funky twist suitable for a teenager. I did not want to purchase new furniture so I had to work with her existing pieces off white daybed computer desk and dresser all in a french country look. She chose the wall color and I found a toile fabric that inspired the room. The results speak for themselves!, Girls' Rooms Design

For Spring & Summer the space lightens up with all white linens and photos we've taken at the beach. The hotel look makes us think we're away. • The lighting... How did you do that?, Some people have asked "How did you get the lighting under the bed?" The lighting is both inexpensive and easy to install. I secured rope lighting inside the bed frame using plastic clips that have an adhesive backing. ...costs about $10 and can be found at most hardware stores. The rope lighting is plugged into an outlet that is connected to a dimmer light switch and can adjusted by a remote control devise. Thanks for all your wonderful comments and encouraging 5-star ratings!, Bedrooms Design
