  • Our Post-College but Pre-Perfected Living Room, We just bought our first house. It has this amazing space with big beautiful windows, but there are some unique challenges:

Odd fake beam on ceiling
TWO fireplaces
Half-wall next to entry which just confuses the flow of the place
BIG HUGE furnace intake grate on the main wall when you walk in.
Did I mention that there are TWO fireplaces? And that one of them has faux 70s lava rock!?!?!, Living Rooms Design

  • paint under carpet, Walk in basement makes this three level TH a great place, but it's 12 yrs old and needs some help. The only time that is spent in the space is to do the laundry, tend to the dog, and walk out to the backyard. Even after I got married six yrs ago, the space has still been neglected. I would like to make this space more inviting and less cold (even though the basement is above ground, it remains cold year round), by removing the carpet and staining the concrete, replacing fake fireplace with a gas one, creating a place for our 5yr old to dance and practice her piano, and a media area for us to enjoy spending time together. And lastly, a place for me to work out. After having the desire to update the basement I pulled the carpet back and saw the floor has paint on it! Why would the builder do such a thing and how do I get it off? My budget is very small, close to nothing, and my time is not very far removed, but if I can find solutions I can do myself, I can work in stages as resources are available., Basements Design

  • Powder Room Makeover, Small powder room makeover. Pretty and clean compared to previous owner's nastiness (check out the before picture to see what we started with but we did completely strip out the fixtures and gross carpet and lived with empty space for a year!). Now it's clean and fresh and I'm not embarrassed when guests ask to use the bathroom!, Bathrooms Design

  • A Florida Living Room, My space needs help. The furniture is fairly new and I actually like it still. The tile is sort of a more contemporary tile as is the furniture. I painted the walls a light, creamy yellow only a few months ago and I don't like it. I have a difficult time finding paint colors that look on my wall the same as they look on the card. People tell me the living room looks nice, but I know it needs something and I keep changing my mind about what that something is! If you have any ideas, just let me know! The blue piece of furniture can go, just don't know what to replace it with., Living Rooms Design

  • The Dungeon a.k.a. The Living Room, This room was added to our house in the '90s and it was originally intended to be used as a game room we think. It originally sold us on this house but now it is so dark and depressing it's like a dungeon!! There's no insulation so its hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The wood is claustrophobic and we just want to re-do the entire room!, Living Rooms Design

We love the 16 feet slanted ceiling, but are still trying to figure out how to work with a corner fireplace - don't like style, prefer contemporary/modern - and include enclosed storage that will include a place for the new TV. • two seperate rooms, My vanity/sink area is in it's own area and the shower and toilet are in the next room separated by a pocket door. I wanted the vanity part to flow into my bedroom to match my dresser and the colors all to flow from one room to the next. The vanity was made from scratch and to be 39 inches tall as I am 6'1. The fixtures are all rose bronze and the doors handles/light are bronze. Mirror and light fixture match vanity. , Bathrooms Design
