This house was mid-construction when it was purchased. This large living room is on the 2nd floor of this 4 story home and opens to a large foyer with a bar, as well as to the Dining Room. There are two pairs of French doors going out to a balcony on the front of the house and I mimicked their shape using arched mirrors above the custom cabinetry flanking the fireplace. Although the space has some very classical elements including detailed moldings and casings, I also mixed in some modern elements to make this a comfortable space for everyone.
3/4" x 5" oak hardwood planks were used for the floor in this room and floor was stained and finished on-site.
Wall color is SW 7221 Dormer Brown by Sherwin-Williams.

We just got our new kitchen table with chairs... but after putting it in... it looks small. We think we should hang some metal framed pictures on the wall to help bring out the metal in the table. Along with that we think some place mats will be great. What are your ideas?

I am picking up things off the curb, and decorating my studio apartment as I have a limited budget, and it feels good to recycle. The plants, bedding, velvet stool, weights, white closet, and paint were all free cycled. I also have curtains, blinds, a bag of mother of pearl seashells, the paint cans, and a rug(having to clean this one. My room is coming along but it still seems a little plain. The ceiling are really high, so all of my furniture looks small, although it is large. The six foot tall tree I picked up off the side of the road seems two feet too short, and I am hoping to find a old plant holder to hike it up. My entertainment nook, and my office nook, are too plain, I could use some ideas there (I am crafty, just need ideas. My media storage in the basket looks a little messy. The old murphy bed space is the hardest thing for me to do. I have been looking for ideas for these types of spaces. I need the wow factor there, I am thinking of hanging curtains or creating a canopy with something. I also thought about pulling the bed out and making a divider, but I would have to get rid of a piece of furniture to keep my yoga/pilates space. All ideas are appreciated. Thanks in advance for rating and commenting on my space. I have been on this site for years, but this is my first decorating attempt.
Want to end with a really glamourous powder room look. One day hope to fine one of those tufted chaise lounges, and some fringe for my stool, and curtains. Also got my eye out for ideas to create a stunning piece of art for the headboard. I have about a hundred dollar budget for this room, and I spent $30 on an old makita, but I had a $15 amazon credit, so I only spent $15.

I work from home, so I needed an office that was both comfortable and functional. This space was originally envisioned as a formal library, but I converted it to a functional office with built-ins around the room including two workstations, a coffee bar complete with beverage refrigerator and a media cabinet. In the center of the room is plenty of room for comfortable seating and there's a beautiful small patio outside the two sets of French doors. Room dimensions are 13 x 19.

Hello I originally posted my living room a few months ago and have made some subtle changes. I have to watch my budget - especially now - like everyone else. Most of my lamps are from thrift stores and I've found some cool retro furniture too - including a vintage Norman Cherner chair for $6. I found the plaid Milo Baughman chair at a thrift store for only $10. The large 5 foot cityscape is Baltimore Harbor in 1977 by Tadder Photography. I got it at a steal for only $25. However, since losing my job in January 2009, I've scaled back the thrift store treasure hunts.

My favorate colors have been incorporated but it is still not quite there. Also my kitchen table does not match the flow and the colors of the walls may need changing. What do you suggest? I'm open to any input (good and not so good :D

Our master bedroom is a potpourri of antiques new pieces and familiar family pieces. It is a room with "busy" surfaces - but on purpose! I love Edwardian style and the Edwardians covered just about every surface. I didn't follow that lead but I do like my dressing table frou-frou!

I painted the walls and ceilings white in contrast to black floors its a great backdrop for my minimal furnishings. The living room has a view of the city we live here my husband demanded that the tv stays. I tried to combined the expensive with inexpensive. I built the bookcase doors to hide books and cds. The doors are old world with a hip look of mirror. I like to use mirrors and mercury glass to reflect the view and light. I need some suggestions for wall art

The idea was to use soothing colors and make a large painting in pearl sheen colors in the room. We found a canvas at art store and used the Ralph Lauren glamor pearl like sheen paints. It was easy fun and very inexpensive. ($65

Although there are touches of country in this room I want to pull more from the design of the quilt that has a hint of tropical flowers that reminds me of Pottery Barn's "beachy: collection. Eventually will refinish furniture (not bed and replace nightstand but for now tight budget so paint will have to work. Very small room hard to portray in picture.
