  • Hot Tub Built in Deck!, We purchased a hot tub and wanted to incorporate it into our backyard without just placing it on the slab. We decided to build a deck along the side of the house and build the deck with the hot tub feeling built in.... I can get to all the control panels from a door on the back... We plan on putting some potted plants and seating area in the coming weeks...also a long term goal is to put a french door where the double window is now...(That would lead into the master bedroom), Patios & Decks Design

  • Three-Tiered Geometric Trex Deck, As you can see many cuts were required to build this deck! This deck was sketched in a fit of madness (which was questioned many times during execution) because we were looking to build something unique. Two colors of Trex decking were used with stainless steel hidden fasteners to provide a maintenance free and bare foot friendly deck. The deep-conversation seating and LP gas fire pit completed a setting in which to relax and enjoy the outdoors. We’re interested to read your comments. , Patios & Decks Design

  • Deck in Progress, Decked around swim spa, with rock exterior (to look more like a patio). Love the look! Now, we are adding rock fireplace to the back. Maybe a grill, but it's far from the house. Would that be a good idea??, Patios & Decks Design

  • Our Lady of Relaxation: a Backyard Deck with Gothic-Arched Pergola, Our little eighth-of-an-acre plot in Los Angeles came with a very small, 20'x20' back yard. It sat unused for years. This Spring, I decided to re-do the whole thing as one big deck with a pergola cover. I did all of the work myself -- fastening every board, setting every stone, sewing together the sections of shade fabric, bending and welding every piece of steel. Everything.

I think DIY-ers will enjoy the story -- especially when you get to the point where I had to find a way to 'levitate' the entire roof assembly of the pergola seven feet into the air with only my two hands, some spare lumber, a home-made pulley and a cordless drill.

There is more greenery in the deck's future -- and there are some parts that are still not finished. But after three months of hard work, the thing is now up and running as a place for my family to -- finally -- spend some time together in what was once the back yard., Patios & Decks Design
